We've touched on it earlier in this thread, but this whole notion of SW "transcending" being "just films" I find to be total nonsense. I hate that kind of thinking. It's the same kind of thought process that places classic films above any kind of reproach in the minds of many. SW, and all other films, are just that, and should be viewed, criticized, and discussed as just that. Everything else is distraction. Saying that the prequels being made you suddenly engage with the OT in a critical way only says something about you and nothing about the films themselves.

I hope this doesn't sound harsh or insulting, because I don't mean it to. Just being honest. As someone who values film and art culture, I think this kind of stuff is important.

No one said or even implied (that I recall) it was about the films themselves, though. Of course it only says something about the person watching. Obviously, they are just films. That was never actually in contention.
