If this had been explained or happened in the any of the movies, it would make selling it a lot easier to fans not familiar with the off screen canon stuff. In fact, if they showcased that in the OT, the ending to ROTJ would be even better - yeah, the emperor is dead, but is he really dead??? (assuming we saw another sith inhabit an object, but I can't recall ever seeing that).

When you build canon after 9 saga films , 2 stand alones, 1 tv show, several animated shows, dozens of books and comics, it gets a tad more complicated.

Sure. But that's what I said. Building canon over 40 years vs building it over 6 years. Let's not act like Lucas didn't change his mind a ton between 1977 and 1983. And then he obviously completely changed his mind AGAIN and furthermore by the late 90s. Even if we disregard all the stuff that wasn't introduced by Lucas, this thing has evolved and changed so many times.

Not bothered because I don't really care about the PT anymore (or the expanded stuff he's in) but I think it was a mistake to bring him back. If you have Maul making a comeback and now Palpatine, it's almost like a comic book at this point.

To me the Maul thing is even worse than the Palpatine thing because what happened to Maul.... no one should be able to come back from that.

how much of the regular cinema going audience has read all of (any of) the books/comics/whatnot? i'm guessing it's a pretty low number.. so if they're going to use concepts/themes in this movie that are reliant on that stuff then... ehh.. that's dicey.

tying back to what i said about my wishes for this trilogy.. a first movie, focused on the re-emergence of the empire/sith/bad guys could have laid this groundwork.. you know.. on screen for everyone.

All they have to do is do one shot from a few of the cockpits .. five or ten seconds as lando or someone is broadcasting to the fleet from the falcon doing a pep talk
