Re: The Running Thread
Sharing this in honor of Timothy Olson's FKT finish on the Pacific Crest Trail last week. 52 days from Mexico to Canada. What a feat.

Olson averaged more than 50 miles a day for seven weeks straight for this record, often at alpine altitudes, gaining more than 400,000 feet in elevation. Not to mention another 400,000 feet of elevation loss.

Re: The Running Thread
it was around 90 degrees and 65% humidity the other evening when I set my personal best…my average heart rate during the run and the way I felt yesterday definitely reflected that

Re: The Running Thread
With this heat potentially crushing all of us soon, would anyone be up for an activity streak in August to stay motivated?
Doesn't have to be running. Can be a mix of many things. Even mowing. Just something every day. Who's in?

How do you have time for swimming but not running?tragabigzanda wrote:Due to multiple circumstances, I’m currently on a steady diet of biking with my kid, swimming, and doing yard work. Have had no free time to hit a treadmill outside of one session since I got back from LA a week ago. Hoping to run on the beach in MA starting next week.

I associate swimming with a time sink is all. It's a pain in the ass to be honest. I'd much rather cycle or run. Stationary bike/treadmill if required.

Re: The Running Thread
Had to cut my run 1.5 miles short because of rain this morning and it's going to gnaw at me all day.
Panic running the last .75 miles at 6:20/mile while the storm rolled in felt pretty good though.

Ah ghost, that sucks. Whens your race, again? This going to put you behind or is it just the lack of running that's going to nag at you? I know that feeling with weather being how it is here.

Re: The Running Thread
Going thru some weird knee discomfort today and skipping a run as well. Likely due to 10 miles in two days with a significant amount of that mileage on the no cushion shoes. Might have overdone it a tad.

Re: The Running Thread
So, this is the furthest I've gone and I owe it to keeping heartrate down. No matter how slow I have to go, be it walking even, trying to keep heartrate down to around 140-150 most of the time worked wonders this time. I even woke up a little hung over in the morning and wasn't feeling great by the time evening run came. I imagine how well I will do when I'm feeling fresh. I looked into this more and it's a method used by many to great results. Things are finally looking up for me. Going to try to pull off over 5 miles at least 2-3 times a week now.tree_ wrote:5.25 miles this evening. Feel pretty great about it.

Re: The Running Thread
Hell yeah, tree! You don't need to crush the pace. Just get those miles and enjoy the time out there.

Re: The Running Thread
I think you'll find that naturally your pace gets better, especially on shorter runs.
I started slow and kept the heart rate down just like you the other day on a long run and was surprised to see that I PR'd a 5k time during the run. When I go out for two or three miles I feel like I'm going slow and I look at the data at the end and I'm at 8:25-8:30 avg pace. This time last year I was struggling to break 9min miles. You get faster with consistency and weekly mileage.

Re: The Running Thread
Nah, it doesn't really matter. About to go on vacation anyway so the next week or so is just recovery time. Marathon is at the end of September so I'll still have time for one more big training push.washing machine wrote:Ah ghost, that sucks. Whens your race, again?
