by all means, stay with it you're enjoying. Masterpiece - U.F.O.F. is worth the time. i'd also throw in a nod for Live at the Bunker Studio. The version of "Not" from that...wooo boy. :nice:
So...pretty much their whole recorded career minus Two Hands is what you're recommending?

I love "Shark Smile".

ah, crap...Two Hands is included (forgot it came after U.F.O.F.), but yeah...they really haven't made a dud.

yes, Shark Smile is great. I love the title track on Masterpiece as well as Vegas. the opening chords to Vegas remind of a Beach House song...Zebra, I think.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around their discography after all of the reviews for the new one describe it as kind of their spontaneous Wowee Zowee moment, diverse and sprawling but oozing with good stuff. Getting a better idea of their whole "sound" after hearing so many different kinds of songs on this one is a challenge.

I love how the intro to anti-Glory kicks the whole shindig off, like an update of Sonic Youth's Schizophrenia. It's all rolling toms and guitar dissonance.

Listening further, the Sonic Youth influence is there, but I'm picking up a whole hell of a lot of mid 90's era Yo La Tengo as well. The three ambient instrumentals on this album break up what otherwise risks being a one-trick pony. I think I'm going to play this album all summer long. Fuzzed out noise pop bliss.

yeah, you can tell they've definitely done their homework on those influences.

Thing is, it all sounds so organic. Some bands just sound that way, I think. Nothing on here feels like gimmicky nostalgia.

Though I did hear the phrase "nu-gaze" recently to describe them and I grimaced.

Echoing this--there's not a dud album in the Big Thief catalog. Capacity took a little longer for me to get into than the other four but I think they're really one of the best bands working today.

Btw just want to register that this morning Reid texted me a link to a Kid Rock song, so he's "now playing" some stuff in secret.
