So, this is the furthest I've gone and I owe it to keeping heartrate down. No matter how slow I have to go, be it walking even, trying to keep heartrate down to around 140-150 most of the time worked wonders this time. I even woke up a little hung over in the morning and wasn't feeling great by the time evening run came. I imagine how well I will do when I'm feeling fresh. I looked into this more and it's a method used by many to great results. Things are finally looking up for me. Going to try to pull off over 5 miles at least 2-3 times a week now.
what’s your heart rate normally? Mine is ridiculous but it’s the only way I can get a halfway decent pace

Thanks. If I'm pushing myself normally and not paying attention, it can get up to 160, 170 fairly quickly after the first half mile or so. So now when it shoots up, I walk and watch it hover around 150, 140, and when it gets to 130s I slowly jog and try to get it to stay around 150 if I can.. if not I walk again. Simple as that, but it makes a big difference for me to be satisfied with a consistent heartrate as opposed to pace.

Also, when you train like this you should be able to increase your pace while keeping heartrate low after some time. Here's some info on it.

i tried something similar last year when i was concerned about my heart rate, but it didn’t really change anything…and even though I’m clearly in better shape than I was 12-14 months ago it hasn’t lessened either
i had some tests run on my heart and they didn’t find anything, but it does still concern me a bit

my run schedule this week is going to be iffy, so I’m going to try to kill it on 2 miles this evening…estimated average heart rate is 180

Nah. This time I'll stick with it. I promise. The effort I put into Strava this time will be directly proportional to the discount percentage I paid for the Boston 8s.
This exchange was waaay back in January 2020. Pre pandemic. I stuck with it, save a couple of patches that year. I'm still running, retired those discount Bostons, am on like 3 different pairs of shoes now and logging runs up to an hour long on the regular.
...but now verb's not here anymore. Is it even worth it?

Don’t worry about it
Walked the dog almost a couple miles in the humid heat. Was harder than it should have been.

Surely you're in a better position than you were before taking up running, though.

We'll never give up on you, Leonard. I'll carry you to the finish line if I have to.

Lenny, that's nonsense. Keep running. Even if it's shitty and slow, you're still better for it.

The knee discomfort I was secretely worried might be a sprain yesterday completely disappeared today. Still, took it light for 3 miles this morning just to be safe, but thank goodness all is well. I was pretty bummy yesterday about it if I'm being honest.
