The fact that some feel the need to insult our intelligence makes me wonder whether they think we're blind to the fact that PJ have changed.
EDIT: It's not questioning your intelligence, it's just wondering why you like something I don't like. isn't that what the internet is for?
And to be honest, harmless, there are a pretty significant number of PJ fans who only listen to PJ and won't accept that their beloved band can do something they don't like.
Oh, and "Future Days".

I just want pearl jam to change and challenge me in a way that I find comfortable and familiar and easy to quickly digest.
Yup and I would have to still like it if Coldplay covered it.

It's not questioning your intelligence, it's asking why you like something that we don't like. There's a difference. I've been defending my love of PJ for years now, or trying to explain to people who checked out after Vs. why the Vitalogy>No Code>Yield>Binaural run was so awesome. I'm about as forgiving as it comes to bands. I think a lot of people have an emotional attachment to their favorite band that affords them a desire to want to like something they might not otherwise like. That's fine. If people like this, I get that. Liking something is subjective, and you are more inclined to like something if you liked the band (or author, or filmmaker, etc) to begin with.
And to be honest, harmless, there are a pretty significant number of PJ fans who only listen to PJ and won't accept that their beloved band can do something they don't like.
Oh, and "Future Days".

But I doubt very much those people are posting here.

There are ways to ask me (or anyone) why I / they like this album without being rude, demeaning and insulting. Some people haven't realised that. I'm happy to debate the merits of this album with someone who doubts them, but let's do it from a place of mutual respect. The fact that I'm on RM rather than the Pit should be some evidence that I'm not the kind of unthinking Pearl Jam fan that gladly laps up everything they piss onto the floor.

I never said that. If that's the impression you get from what I said, it says more about you than me. Again, I have the right to say that this album sucks and question the endless gushing over it, and defend MY position on the matter. If you don't like it, GET OVER IT. Stop acting like your intelligence has been personally insulted.
And you guys think
I'm the one with too much time on my hands?

You lashed out at me for having something wrong with me as soon as I challenged what you'd said. You've done it again here.

I was frightened. Much like the fright I felt after the initial offering of FD and Lightning bolt at wrigley...

Again, what's with constant paranoia and accusations? Let me reiterate the fact that you have no sense of humor, and need to get down off your high horse. I can't comment on anything without you crying like a little girl that I am being "demeaning". Most folks tend to either laugh or ignore it, as with most comments, but you take everything I say personally. I'm actually starting to enjoy antagonizing you because you bring it upon yourself.
