That was equally the most fun brilliant perfect pearl jam performance caught on film and the most boring self indulgent bullshit ever.

Enjoyable enough way to spend a Wednesday evening. Surprised the band signed off on what was essentially an Eddie indulgence.
Mike should have been louder in the mix throughout, and that Corduroy call-and-response needs to disappear.
Probably won't watch it again.

Re: Let's Play Two: Live from Wrigley Field
Saw this last night after not reading too much about it beforehand and thought it was great. Early reports about this being mostly a Cubs film were greatly exaggerated - there were 17 more-or-less full performances and they were absolute top-shelf for this era of the band (sans the Corduroy call-and-response of course). Well-shot too - really gave a great sense of what being at a PJ show is like, more than anything else they've put to film I think. 'Release' was the highlight for mine - still yet to hear that one in person but this was the next best thing
As a fan of a sporting team that had it's own decades-long premiership drought I really enjoyed the Cubs stuff and thought it didn't go too overboard. There were some nice touches in integrating the performances into the story ('the waiting drove me mad' after finally making the World Series, 'don't go on me' after losing the first couple of games).
I went with a friend who is at best a casual fan and he thought it was awesome - I think this treads a fair line between pleasing the hardcore fans and a wider audience too. Great to see the band do something different,
from me.
Looking forward to the blu-ray bonus features, especially Masters of War

I saw this last night. After hearing the mixed reports coming out, I decided to go in with an open mind. I have to tell you I was pleasantly surprised.

Re: Let's Play Two: Live from Wrigley Field
Its funny at this point how I always disagree with everybody. I finally listened to that Corduroy video. I think it sounds awful the guitar mixing is really bad to me, they're bringing out the wrong parts. And maybe its because they put more Stone and less Eddie. I dunno whose fault it is but man the guitars sound bad and choppy on the verses and even the choruses.Strat wrote:The mix on that corduroy is great. They buried eds jangly mess in the back and stone is very prominent. I like this.
The bridge is the best part of the song and they killed it by bringing out the complete wrong guitar, when the part that makes it so magical is the higher one and its barely audible making the bridge lose all its impact to me.
I dunno whose fault it is honestly but the mix is bringing out the wrong notes to me.

But I wont let Eddie be clear of my wrath, because that call and response is so bad, we can all agree on that and he even does those hees I hate

Re: Let's Play Two: Live from Wrigley Field
Went to see it last night with a friend who is not a PJ fan and he thought it was excellent. My friend is a filmmaker and he thought Danny Clinch captured the warmth of the patrons of Wrigleyville and surrounding neighbourhood very well. He also thought Eddie appeared as down to earth as somebody in his position could be and the performance footage was slightly too much when compared with the sports content.
I loved it and I take back some of what I've previously thought and said about them. I doubt there is a band that would sound as good in a Cinema as PJ. At times it was overwhelmingly good and choked me up.
I'm also now unsure as to whether any new music is required at this stage of their career based on last night and the last few albums.
