I don't think I want to know.

I saw it a whole lot in Quebec. I was running in more academic circles then, too, though

This is a weird dunk on Democrats.
"People sometimes recognize that they occupy land that was forcibly taken from Indian tribes, so Indians voted against Harris."
Did Harris have a statement about land acknowledgement?
Did Harris have a statement about American Indians at all?
Maybe that was the problem.

It seems weird because that is a significant mischaracterization of the point

Do these land acknowledgements go beyond just virtue signalling? Do Texans do Mexican Land Acknowledgements?

The point seemed to be to mock recognition of Native culture.

I think the point is to mock idiot (mostly white) liberals who think it's something useful.

It's useful to the white liberals whose guilt is assuages

Might someone do it because they think it's right despite the lack of utility?

Unfortunately I do think some do it because they think it's right.
I've been listening to a few left wing takes for why Kamala lost, and I found Jon Stewart's to be the worst, disappointingly. Head up ass.

Yeah, but that doesn't make it any less of a waste of time.

It goes deeper than that. Did you know that every Spirit Halloween sales day begins with a land acknowledgement for whatever shuttered space they occupy for the season?

Is it respecting their culture to remind them they lost?

Is it the native inhabitants of the land that request these acknowledgements or is it the occupiers that feel bad so they do it?

You know how the church uses “original sin” to control people?

The only time I've ever heard one of these was at a Scouting ceremony where they recognized the ancestral lands of the Tribe that worked with them on the ceremony. I assume the Tribe preferred the recognition to nothing.
Bi_3 wrote:Is it respecting their culture to remind them they lost?
Almost certainly not, but it probably comes closer than ignoring the fact we benefit from their loss altogether.
