That's kind of important for me as well, I think. I want PJ to be good. But I don't *need* them to be good as I used to. I've got other things that fuel me in my life now (albeit not as much as I'd like, but I'm working on it). I guess this is why I'm thinking I just want to quite like it, that's all. If it's not terrible at least it has a chance to grow. I'm thinking of how I felt when I first heard Been Away Too Long by Soundgarden: "Meh." But it, along with the album (and Non-State Actor, my least favourite song) has become an album I listen to quite a lot. So I won't be too worried about a "Meh" reaction.Thejambi wrote:Nice post.harmless wrote:WTF cares about 'sense'? Sense is boring and depressing. I'm going to like what I like and dislike what I dislike about this album, but I've got good reason (I think) to expect it to be more my thing than Backspacer. But I liked Backspacer, and half of S/T, and I loved Riot Act. So PJ still have my heart, even if I get really pissed off with that ol' battleaxe occasionally.nightmareblack0206 wrote:Nooooooo you were one of few that made sense. ...
Personally I think the downfall of Pearl Jam has been greatly exaggerated. Someone posted somewhere touching the subject (maybe it was you harmless) but I think my age has a big part in it. I don't tie music in to my life nearly as much as I used to so no matter how good it is I don't think a cd will ever be as impact full as it would have been as a teenager. Songs and CDs still help with moments here and there but as a whole they hit far less. That along with my musical tastes, world views, general awareness and knowledge expanding I don't look to pearl jam to be that force any more.

Nice post. Welcome to the boardsward wrote:I saw so many new pages since checking in last night that I was pretty pretty pretty positive the single leaked and I'd find some sort of hidden message trail I had to follow to waste my morning at work finding the song. But noooooooo. Its a bunch of pages saying the same thing over and over with hilarious Seinfeld images and calls to enjoy the song a couple of times and realize how crappy PJ has become the last few years!
I'll be honest...whether I like the song or not, half the fun is reading the buildup of unrealistic (and realistic) expectations and naysayers (and sayers!) commenting on all that is Pearl Jam. I usually go on a pretty decent PJ hiatus and ease my way back in until something new breaks or I'm heading to a concert (London!). So while some of you are sick of the band..not this guy! I'm raring to go.
FYI. I have a personal process I follow when a new song/album hits.
1. I listen to it
2. I decide a) I like it ...b) I dislike it...c) It needs time
3. Based on my selection above I then craft a series of reactions to my choice...
If I choose a) I listen to it again and again until I'm forced to skip it years down the road.
b) I listen to it again and maybe again and then set it aside and go about my life making it nothing personal between me and Pearl Jam..as hey..we are all people and hey..we are all different...and wait for the next song/album or dip back into the old stuff or just go on a hiatus again...
AND c) I listen to it again and again and then skip over it until I think to self..self...what about that song/album you weren't sure about. I keep going back at it in this fashion until my choice becomes a or b. Pretty foolproof method.
Side note to all of the above. This is what happens when I log in and see multiple new pages to a post talking about a potential leak and see that no leak has happened. I write nonsense. Yeah..yeah..I know my post count is low..and there's no reason to even care that I wrote anything at all...I don't even care about what I write. But I do care about song leaks. So lets make it happen people. Lets. Make. It. Happen.
