Agreed. This is how I feel when I listen to Bill Callahan. And I love Callahan, so I’m all for more of this from Ed.

PHATJ wrote:This song is fantastic. It is exactly what PJ should and can be. They have been stuck in a 15-year, creatively-stagnant era. This breaks that mold. New inspiration. New creative direction. Far more inspired than anything since Riot Act, and as ambitious and anything since Binaural. Very exciting.
I wrote this right before I drifted to sleep last night. I feel exactly the same this morning. :heartbeat:

The best sign.

One of my favorite moments on DOTC is the segue between 1st chorus and 2nd verse where Jeff's synth part gets quieter and less busy... a rare moment of space and dynamics on a PJ 2.0 song

i really don't get the complaints on ed's voice here. spoiler alert: HE'S 55.

more importantly, he's singing for the song and playing the character the song demands.

Ha, it occurred to me today that Lightning Bolt and Cant Deny Me are the only things the band have put out in the last 10 years :o

Still really like the song in the cold light of day...and I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm slightly amazed they were able to pull this kinda song off.

I think a lot of us have wanted Ed to take a step back vocally, this song is going in that direction. It's a start. We're not there yet, but it's a start.

bingo. since avocado, he's been trying to sound (and use studio tricks to make him sound) like he's 28. finally, at least with this one song, he's keeping it real. that's him.. with what i would assume is minimal pitch correction or auto tune or whatever.

just one of many the positive aspects of this thing
