What’s with the Leatherman hate, you fucks?
I'm 99.9% sure that this is not how they see it. This is the music they want to be making and they are very excited about it and proud of it, as they are with every new album they release. This all boils down to what music always comes down to in the end... it's a matter of personal preference. This is what they prefer to make right now, regardless of talent or ability. And, unfortunately, regardless of what we'd like to hear from them.tree_ wrote:They have the talent but for some unknown reason they're not applying it.
You can call this song the work of "applying talent" with a straight face? Listen to Spoonman and tell me Matt is at all trying on this song.bluestate wrote:I'm 99.9% sure that this is not how they see it. I hate to say it, but this is where an actual producer might've come in handy. Reel this mess of a song in a little.Kevin Davis wrote: The song just feels so incoherent. Not like, "Wow, this is unrestrained freedom letting itself loose on record," but like, "This person has no instinct for how to form a cohesive melody or song structure." I feel like it starts off promising with this almost 50's-surf-rock sounding chord progression, like maybe this is going to be an enjoyable minor track, but it quickly descends into this disorganized clutter of musical nonsense.
I'd take this over Getaway, GSMF and Life Wasted (apart from the bridge, that's gold)DeeDee wrote:They're mediocre when they write fun/happy songs, they just are.
They become an average band when they take the Supersonic/Olé/Hitchhiker route, but they keep taking it over and over again.
Nobody will become a fan of PJ after listening to SBWM. Where did Brain of J, Life Wasted or Hail, Hail go? Those were good, honest rock songs, and they were really good at writing them. Even Getaway o Gonna see my friend are above average.
But this fun/happy PJ is turning ugly really quick.
As much as this song sucks, this should not be a factor to consider when writing songsDeeDee wrote:I mean, don't they see the reaction of the crowd when they play this kind of songs?
Ugh. Absolutely not. If this was "reeled" in then it would definitely be generic as fuck. The mess of it is the exciting part about it.theplatypus wrote:I hate to say it, but this is where an actual producer might've come in handy. Okay but it is a mess and also really badStrat wrote:Ugh. Absolutely not. If this was "reeled" in then it would definitely be generic as fuck. It already is generic as fuck... but with (word) vomit allll over itStrat wrote:Ugh. Absolutely not. If this was "reeled" in then it would definitely be generic as fuck. Also im gonna need specific examples here of "Crowd reacton" for "these types of songs"theplatypus wrote:As much as this song sucks, this should not be a factor to consider when writing songsDeeDee wrote:I mean, don't they see the reaction of the crowd when they play this kind of songs?
Spoonman has the entire band committing to an odd time-signature and more groove-metal chug than you can shake a stick at; Matt is still just "playing along" to it, nothing more, it's just that the bones of the song are more complextree_ wrote:You can call this song the work of "applying talent" with a straight face? I have to agree with you. He'd also remove 50% of the words.RidiculousHuman wrote:If they're going to insist on making this style of song, at least let Stone take the lead vocal. Immediate improvement.
