Did you just hear Given to Fly and In My Tree too many times? They lost their luster? I can't imagine someone putting In My Tree below all of those songs. Just can't fathom it.
Used to adore In My Tree, but I've really soured on it over the years. I've truthfully never loved Given To Fly! Don't hate it, but Matt's never played it right IMO, and I can't even say I really miss the Jack performances. I enjoy it well enough when it comes up on the album, but if I'm being honest I get way more excited about those other songs.
I get that. In My Tree had a terrible run live. Matt's new drum pattern. The organ solo in the middle. It still has that magic for me when I hear the studio version though.

I still can't believe that Mike thinks his outro solo is so unique it couldn't be replicated live.
I listened to it again and its literally....umm...sounds like a dry track. Has he not listened to GIgaton?

I think he was talking speciffically about the delay effect that he asked Josh and Neil Hundt to tap random tempos cause thats something that he couldn't do by himself live - as he uses wah, univibe/rotovibe tempo tapping, delay tempo tapping all in the same time, he can't manipulate this together with only two feet. I think thats what he was talking about "special" and I'm sure that he will even find a better sound for this solo live...
That was a cool insight about how was record...

one of the things josh evans talks about in that video of him walking through all the soundgarden live gear setup is how Kim Thayil had so many pedals and he used to do this 'tap dance' live when there were like combinations of 3 or 4 at once - and Josh was kind of chuckling about it - so he set him up with this thing that like programs them so he only has to hit one button. i am sure he can do that for mike

That's Stone solo, which he's talked about separately.
You're right, by the way. He said he recorded it dry and let Josh play around with effects to make it extra skronky.
Mike's "impossible" solo being referred to is the big blues rock blowout at the end. I can only guess he's referring to twisting time knobs on delays and things like that, which really isn't hard with delays which have expression inputs (i.e. Mike could easily control that with his foot if he wanted).
As has been mentioned before, there's nothing about the solo that even sounds very unique or interesting. It's just boilerplate McCready wailing, there's nothing there that he couldn't reproduce.

I like this song n'all but it's not resonating with me like it seems to be most others. I think it was KD who said there was a bit of cheese or something with it and that's kinda how I feel. It's a good enough song but so far not one of my favorites on the album. Time is funny though, this time next week I may completely change my mind.
