It's enough to learn that according to the liner notes, he played guitar and also PRODUCED LIGHTNING BOLT.

I think it would have been fair to give Jeff half the writing credits. He wrote the bassline which is half of Ed's vocal line.

The bass line makes the song. Without it, it is standard Ed fair.

This song puzzles me more than anything else on this album. I can't quite figure out what to make of it. So far, I've given it a 3. The chorus and outro are obviously pretty badass, especially when that extra burst kicks in for the final chorus. But the opening guitar/drum thing seems like such a weak way to start off the album. I want something that pulls me in right from the start. Or at least something that signals that "hmm, this album is going to intrigue me" moment that most great openers on great albums provide.... And although the groove is nice (reminds me of WWS in a lot of ways, especially the pre-chorus), I feel like the song could use more bite. The same kind of bite that MYM and MFS deliver more effectively.

Considering how much I like tracks 2 thru 10 (yes, you read that right, 10), this song could hold the key for unlocking the whole album for me. If I hear it live this weekend in Brooklyn and it blows my face off then LB may start skyrocketing up my PJ album ranks.

I'm not in the I love it to death camp either. I think this might come down to how much a meaty bassline will make or break a song for you. It doesn't for me.

There's much more to it than the bassline, but the bassline accentuates everything good.

I don't think he was playing an LB song in that, just improvising.

Yea, your latest take on this song (3.5/5 in the LB thread) pretty much sums up the same way I feel about it. The bass/vocal-only third verse is the best thing about that bassline and maybe this song could've been amazing if that part was introduced there as a new bridge with something more meaty, aggressive and/or interesting happening earlier in the first 2 verses. But the chorus and outro sure are killer though. So at least there's that, that may be enough to bring it up to a 4 star for me in the long run.

2nd favorite song on the album, after "Pendulum". One of their better opening tracks. 5 stars.

Simon is actually the name of the apostle who helped Jesus carry the cross and one of the first to witness his resurrection, also Simon in hebrew means "he who heres the word of god".........I didnt know Ed was that anti religious, not that there is anything wrong with that...

what puts this in the omg this is the best category is Eddies lyrics and the way he delivers those lyrics. I feel he is telling off someone close minded who's telling him how to think. I can't stand people who do that with religion or politics. I prefer more open people. So this song really does it for me.. that and its catchy:p

Yeah, I know who Simon is, so here it's kind of an interesting pun because "Simon Says" is a children's party game. Ed's an atheist. But I don't think this song is anti-faith as much as anti-fundamentalist. It's anti-religion as a system of control and oppression.
