Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam
As someone said upthread, Mike is likely juicing the treble frequencies to account for the fact that he's a deaf musician who has been playing professional gigs for at least the past 35 years.

We still make records to be listened to — not that everyone will listen to a record track one to twelve in a row or side A or Side B — but we still make 'em in case somebody does want to listen to it like that, that's how we make em…

Yeah I’m not a fan of the hats he’s been using lately either.

Sincere but self-aware is my read. These guys just seem like big fans, not crazies.Jorge wrote:"We'll get through this together"
Honest question, how much of this melodramatic sort of response is serious vs. tongue in cheek?

Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam
I agree 2006 was the last time they were genuinely great, but I went to some really great shows in 2024, even if they didn't sound that good on the boot. Fenway 2 in 2024 might have surpassed Brooklyn 2 in 2013 as my favorite ever show. The show I went to in 2022 (MSG) was also great.Birds in Hell wrote:I think the 2022-2025 shows have been some of the band's worst.
2009-2014 had some solid shows from memory, probably the last time Ed's voice was reliably OK.
2006 was the last time they were genuinely great.
So for me, 2013 (my first live shows) were good, and 2022-2024 were good. The ones I went to in 2016, 2018, were not as good as those mentioned.

To me I remember noticing this so much when i started listening to live pearl jam for the first time, the shows from 2011-2012 were horrible with this...but he's gotten better over time.DDWJMUVW wrote:WtOB? wrote:whenever i go back to 2009-2015 i find them genuinely unlistenable and couldn't tell you the last time i could get through a full show. even a boot like ottawa 2011, which i consider one of the best bootlegs from that period, or an australian show i actually attended i can't get through. 2016 they start to get listenable again and i've listened to a lot of the gigaton/dark matter shows and have even bought a couple of cds to play in the car i enjoy them that much.
the amount the tempo has slowed down the last 10 years is really noticeable if you throw on a show from 2014. i can't even explain why i can't listen to them, there's just some soul missing from it. it could be the tempo, it could be eddie's voice, it could be the sound of the drums, the guitar tone, it could be all of that or none of that, but it's something missing and i'm glad they got it back somehow.
It’s Ed adding 3 vowels to every other word. His vocal delivery was so weird during this timeframe. Thank god he’s dropped that crap and the band slowed down a bit. I’m with you. 22-25 sounds much better than say 13-18.

It’s funny, but same. I remember seeing shows and listening to them from 2013 and even though they extended those shows greatly, it just seemed like something was missing in that tour. Even going to the second Brooklyn show, it was a good show but it didn’t have the same feel as the shows before it or even after.mikejasond wrote:To me I remember noticing this so much when i started listening to live pearl jam for the first time, the shows from 2011-2012 were horrible with this...but he's gotten better over time.DDWJMUVW wrote:WtOB? wrote:whenever i go back to 2009-2015 i find them genuinely unlistenable and couldn't tell you the last time i could get through a full show. even a boot like ottawa 2011, which i consider one of the best bootlegs from that period, or an australian show i actually attended i can't get through. 2016 they start to get listenable again and i've listened to a lot of the gigaton/dark matter shows and have even bought a couple of cds to play in the car i enjoy them that much.

As a Korn fan when it's Dave S. vs Ray Luzier debates, i feel the same. But at least David Silveria is the heck of a drummer.
And he could've been a great new drummer for PJ
