Have you found with rest that lateral knee pain keeping your leg from wanting to bend on distance runs has gotten better? Or is that something you are still noticing?

I have managed to injure myself three times this weekend so far. I fell while hiking Camelback Mountain with my son yesterday morning and gouged the fuck out of my right leg. I ripped my left big toenail half off while biking with my daughter in flip-flops last night. Then this morning, I got a horrendous calf cramp in my right leg while on a canal run. I'm fucking disintegrating into nothing here.

My pre-run snack is usually a piece of fruit about an hour before a run. Normally it's an apple, banana or a couple of plums. This morning there was a big juicy pear in the fruit bowl that was nicely ripe. I chowed into that like it was the last piece of fruit on earth, it was glorious and juicy.
Half way through my run it hit me. Fuck that pear. Fuck that big, juicy, laxative inducing asshole of a pear.

Go for it, dime. The couch to 5k is great, and is what got me started running. Have you got some good running shoes?

20(ish) miles in 3:02
Comp day at work, so I went on desert trail run. Didn't start early enough, but I took the Camelbak so I had plenty of water. 100 degrees when I finished. Not great, but I didn't get lost this time. I saw my first desert tortoise that wasn't in a preserve area. Lo-Lo's Chicken & Waffles as a reward.

If you were meaning me: it certainly has, the last handful of runs have been totally pain free and no tightness anywhere. The break was difficult but I feel that and the ART sessions helped greatly, plus it put foam rolling as a regular deal on my map which should only help to improve. I've actually run at a faster pace yet feel more comfortable than before the last half.
I got the official word, aka don't come back, tonight to get back on schedule for Newport. Sunday will probably be my long run so we'll see how that goes, I'm pretty damn eager but I don't want to get ahead of myself with the reduced sched :fingersbecrossed:
I've also put May 17th 2015 on the calendar... after a year of halfs, with the last hopefully going best, I would like to attempt my first marathon in Maine.

First 5K is in the morning. We're not going to win, but our goals are to not be last and to run across the finish line.

Thanks! It went really well. Time wasn't anything to write home about but it was our best personal 5K time by far. It was sponsored by the Pawtucket Red Sox, so the last 1/4 mile was around the warning track and the finish was next to home plate, so it was easy to get pumped up for the finish. We're going to register for another one in September and then for a costumed one the end of October...the quest to beat our time has begun!

Nice work, bro.
This is how it starts. Soon running will become your addiction.

My buddy and I won a "one biker, one runner" race today in Scottsdale. Everybody else elected to have their best cyclist bike the up and run the down, while we did the opposite. It was a nasty, technical "up" that basically left most people picking up or pushing their bikes up most of the hills. I basically just embraced that fact and put the bike on my shoulder for 70% of my bike, only actually getting on the bike for the rare downhill. We were third at the switch and within 10 minutes we were in first. It was a 15.5 mile course and we won by over 10 minutes. There were only about 25 teams, but I notice at least 2 other fairly hardcore ultrarunners in the mix. It was a "fat ass" race, so no awards or shirts, just bragging rights, which is more important to me anyway. It was 105 degrees when we finished.

Remember when I got really frustrated with the most adorable family of all time that was slowing me down at the end of the 5K, so I passed them at the finish line? Well, now there's photographic evidence:

At ST: You go boy!
At t2b: Kick ass work! The guy who finished first at the CF hike was one who would run bike events, damn you people.
Got in 3.106 on the tread last night then decided to wake up and run today to see where I was at. 93% Humidity made it a bit laborious but I played a game with myself: after a few songs in to the album I jogged 20-30 secs and then ran a bit over race pace the rest of each song, no issues in the four miles. I'm thinking a day off running tomorrow and back to it Tuesday.
Edit: I have lost 20 lbs since December.
