It's Bon Jovi Pearl Jam.
Which makes it very puzzling that Stip likes it so much.

Oof. I like the song, so I don't want this to be true...But it's true.
It's not really true once you get past that horrid opening riff

If it came out in the 80s, it would've been the featured music during any Rocky training montage.

The good thing with Backspacer is that set out to make a lighter album and didn't second guess themselves. Unlike say Binaural , Avocado & to a lesser extent Lightning Bolt.

That and they wrote Pendulum.

Yep, it's unapologetically light.

Going all the way back to Ten, PJ has always been criticized for so-called cheesiness. Some of the criticism is true. They are a band you have to hold back cynicism and jadedness, they always have been that way. Buying into PJ now is very much the same. If I truly wanted obliqueness and sarcasm and wry, dark humor and nihilism, I would have attached myself to Nirvana all those years ago.

So people have a problem at PJ actually managing to sound like PJ at their A game in FON but have no problem with 50+year old men trying to make 'punk' music like Got Some?

hilarious

You know..I dont know whats happened...but I like Backspacer

When I first heard this album I only knew Even Flow, Jeremy, Black, and Alive....

It was in Rock Band and the whole album came out for DLC. I was like, great Pearl Jam! I really like their songs!

I listened to the first two tracks and I was like "WTF IS THIS?! THIS IS NOT PEARL JAM!"

For years afterwards I decided I hated it, because it was just so not pearl Jam's sound.

Now I have listened to all of PJ's albums many many times, and somehow I realized...somewhere along the way, Backspacer has completely grown on me.

In fact, I think its a great album! Its 36 minutes long, flies right by, sounds energetic, and honestly...there's not a bad track on the album. My least favorite is probably Just Breathe which is not a bad song...just don't like the way Eddie sounds on it.

I really like Force of Nature, Speed of Sound, Johnny Guitar...

Id even say that this album is the best Pearl Jam ever got the modern sound. They aren't doing their old music at all, but what they're doing here is good....its just a different genre. It also has a cohesive sound. And all the songs are honestly pretty memorable.

wow, I just have to admit it. Backspacer is actually good.

I should clarify I do not like it nearly as much as the old sound from the first 3 albums, but as for modern Pearl Jam, with a completely different sound, this is the best they ever got THAT sound.

mikejasond, this kind of thing can be discussed in the Backspacer thread. I'll be merging this with that one.

Ok, but it's only right to change the thread title to "You know..I dont know whats happened...but I like Backsp"
