Yeah, didn't Suni post the highest score on uneven bars? Now that's badass.

Yup. She’s the best in the world on those. I sure hope she can be flawless on that apparatus and win gold.

The first report was that Biles got hurt. Leg injury.
Not the case? She just bowed out?

While she had come to the Tokyo Olympics feeling “pretty good,” the weight of expectations on her as Team U.S.A.’s biggest star at the Tokyo Games became tougher by the day, and in the hours before the team final she said she was shaking and couldn’t nap. In the end, the pressure was just too heavy for her to bear, she said after withdrawing from the team final on Thursday.

I wonder what would have happened if this were a year ago.

If this was Kevin Durant I’d have something snarky to say about it. As it were this is gymnastics so I will no longer pretend that I care.

Whether it was a brave or craven decision I have no idea. I figure only she really knows how she feels and with the passage of time she's the one who will either feel good about the decision or regret it for the rest of her life.

i found the lost in the air stuff interesting. i think we underestimate how dangerous some of this is; if you have one jump where you lapse in concentration, it should spook you and send you to the sidelines until your head's right. hopefully she's okay, and just needs some more time and practice to regain confidence in herself. if not, that's okay too - it'll just suck that this will loom over her for a good while.

Fiji defeat New Zealand for gold in rugby sevens. Check out how they celebrate. You cannot help but love this team:

Same, how it was presented early didn’t do the story justice. It’s not nerves or anything like that, Biles is quite obviously as mentally tough as it gets, but the way it was presented was that she took her first vault, it didn’t go well and she quit, that’s not really what happened, whatever is going on definitely was effecting her safety and ability to perform and it was most likely the best move for the team not to push through it. My first reaction was, hang on she just wore a goat on her leotard a month ago… and every immediate news story had built in excuses and lectures, which were over the top, but I think she made the best decision because of personal safety and to give Jordan Chiles the chance to go compete. Ultimately outside of the hype and all that money, it’s not really all that serious. Potentially breaking her neck would be. She knows way more about what’s right with her than I ever will, but quite clearly something was wrong, and I feel like the initial reporting and even the comments on mental health didn’t do the story justice.
It’s just disappointing to not see one of the more incredible athletes in the world be superhuman one more time.

Pretty sure that's Rangi's wife on the left. These girls are going to lay waste to the opposition.
