No, it's a really good movie, absolutely. I might watch it again over the weekend. I will say that I think the futuremutants look dumb as hell.

i think they picked the "future" mutants because they are fan favorites while not HUGE stars in their own right. Blink died within 4 panels of her first marvel 616 appearance but became a fan favorite during the Age of Apocalypse story line. Sunspot has always been a new mutant and has a cool powerset that they deemed wouldnt translate well on the big screen, though a black figure glowing yellow with white pupils i think would have looked fairly cool

bishop is also a love him or hate him character. he was badass when first introduced (uncanny 312 or theres abouts) but then they turned him bad during the second coming story line and after (though trying to redeem him now)

they could have picked some others for sure but i think while wanting to make a good movie they are also throwing the fans some bones

I'll admit im bias, ive always been a far bigger X-fan
but it did a lot of lil things the other movies dont do.

Avengers TRIED to give itself emotional weight with the whole Coulson / needed someone to avenge, in the end its simply super heros putting on tights to save the world. This movie just had so much more emotional weight to it IMO but like i said, im bias, ill take the X-men over the others anyway.

the avengers had essentially nothing that was emotionally engaging, but it was such an utter triumph of fun, witty spectacle that I could care less. It was the pinnacle of escapist entertainment. The action almost always sucked in the Batman films but they were so amazing because the action was a backdrop for the psychological struggles of the character, the philosophic issues it raised, and the battle for the soul of a city. You don't need to have both if you are great at both, but it's nice if you can have your cake and eat it too

Young Magneto really shines in his super villain greatness
Spoiler: show
I was thinking they may KILL Xavier, setting Mags on the path to school head much like the Age of Apocalypse story
and old Magneto may have one of the best lines
Spoiler: show
as hes dying to Charles, something along the lines of "all those years fighting, if only to have a minute of it back old friend" reaching up for one last hand shake

I think thats what I really loved about this movie, it found a really nice balance
it wasnt just "hey lets put on our tights and save the world, well meet for pizza afterwords"
and the mass destruction that has been sooooooooooo over the top common in all these comic book movies lately? was limited to RFK stadium and the White House (well, and the entire world in the future) It was nice to not see 5 million civilians miraculously saved by a couple super heroes.

Yeah, the big climactic scene was a welcome change from what we've seen in recent superhero movies.

Not sure what I would give it. It's not just the future mutants that look bad. It's has an all around cheap made for tv look.

Storywise, It's a bit of a mess but I agree the climax was great. Magneto rules.

Maybe give it a B-.

Oh and I love that Storm has one line and delivers it terribly. Classic Halle Storm. She sucks.

Outstanding work here. Great story line to tie up the future to the past, characters you actually give a shit about and
Spoiler: show
a great way to bring back Gene, Scott
.

Glad to see that Mystique got such a big role in this one.

Young Magneto was awesome once again. The dynamic between he and Xavier is what really makes these movie great, old or new versions.

Another great thing about his movie is that is shows you how Wolverine ended up
Spoiler: show
with Stryker. Plus his reaction to no metal claws was great.
I don't like short hair Storm. Lookin' lesbo.

Best part of the movie: the stadium lift. I didn't see it in 3D but I bet it looks awesome.

and after the credits
Spoiler: show

IF he ends up with Stryker? I really wanted him to pop the claws in the future, once he got alone with Xavier, look down... pop those claws and let us see? did you still end up Weapon X? or did Raven save you / send you home with Charles?
I know see why Sir Ian has said in a few interviews "I want to play young Magneto he gets to have a ton of fun"

An interesting side note, Im betting the writers didnt realize they fit into the actual comic book continuity
from Dec of 1970 - June of 1975, X-men were more or less, cancelled (the original comics were being put out in re-print but no new issues came out) so...
Spoiler: show
having the story set in 73, Vietnam took away the teachers / broke Xavier, lost his powers, Wolverine coming back saying ya must find us, find the X-men
fits perfectly in the 5 year void where the X-men just disappeared from the MarvelU

also after a 2nd viewing, Id have loved to have seen
Spoiler: show
Old Beast die. When Young Beast asked Logan if he made it, Id have loved to see Logan with a quick flash back of Old Beast dying, at the school from one of the first Sentinel attacks. Then that end future seen when Logan sees Old Beast alive it gives it a lil more weight too it.

btw,
Spoiler: show
since when the fuck can Shadowcat transport minds through time? That was dumb (though it wouldnt shock me if that were in the comics), not that anyone cares.

Its not really a spoiler (as it was talked about openly before the movie came out) so im not going to spoiler it
in the comics, they use Rachel Summers (a telepath) to send Kittys (Shadowcats) conscience back to her younger self, which, you would fully expect a telepath to be able to do.

In the movie however, they were going back to 1973, Shadowcat is not alive yet, so that ruled out sending her back, the logical choice was Logan, as Hugh is the face of the franchise. I think the reason they used Shadowcat was 1 - to keep her involved like in the comics, and, to leave Charles there helpless as everyone around him died. Other than that yeah, its a stretch of her powers, Ive never seen her do anything like that in the comics. But its not the first time a movie has taken liberties with a super heros power set. Id have loved Kitty to even say, as she was explaining it to Logan "I have no idea how this works? but it does so just go with it"

Saw it yesterday and it was ok. way better than those Wolverine movies...i was surprised on how weird the photography was, it looked really really digital sometimes and i kinda hate that.
It might be the best use of Wolverine in a movie though.

when Magneto put the metal to the Sentinels did look HORRIBLE

RFK ringing the White House however more than made up for it.

That seems like an ability you'd use all the goddamn time, in a state of ongoing conflict.

Shit, I'd use it just to beat my daughter at Candyland.
