What can we say? Great fucking show.

One thing that amuses me is the pre-show montage basically spelling things out for you. It is almost insulting to the viewers who have paid attention to show Ice (Ned's sword) in a bunch of scenes to explain the opening of the show. Then they for what seemed like no reason show Polliver taking needle and killing Lommy only to set up the parallel at the end of the episode. Season 3 did the same thing with showing Ser Barristan's dismissal only to reveal him as the person that save Dany.

I get that the show could be confusing to some people, especially things that happened 3 seasons ago (even though a lot of people have recently just seen those episodes). I think it just shows a lack of faith in the viewer. The scene in KL's godswood is probably how they see the audience: Ser Dontos "Don't you remember me?" and Sansa personifies the viewer with the puzzled look.

I think I've re-watched the Oberyn/random Lannisters scene about fifteen times. Just a badass.

Easy for a book reader like you to keep up though. They're trying to convey a complex story and cast to millions of viewers, so I can see how some of that lowest common denominator effect might creep in.

I tend to agree.

But it doesn't bother me when it's a show as sprawling and complex at GoT, where there are so many characters, and most of the references are from years ago. Especially since the time off for a show like GoT is so lengthy. And, maybe I'm wrong, but I can't expect that everyone is rewatching these episodes over and over again like the internet does.

But only because I usually get it. There are plenty who don't remember, so the payoff doesn't mean shit. There is no payoff.

That's what conversations with friends are for! It's the same for reading books and talking about them; people pick up on different things

Yeah, im not on team mecca here. I enjoy the reminders at the beginning. Sure it's a small spoiler (this seemingly forgotten thing is going to be brought up tonight!), but it's not as though it spells it out for you specifically. I wouldn't have remembered what a lommy was, or that Arya said the same thing.
