Watched Sucker Punch last night. I am officially a Zack Snyder convert. That guy is the genuine article, and that movie is earnest, unrestrained art that ignores almost all the boring trappings of exposition and narrative formula. It's structure is similar to Inception, except instead of dream-within-a-dream, it's defamiliarization-within-defamiliarization(-within-defamiliarization!). I thought it was exhilarating. I want the future to be full of movies like Sucker Punch and Lost River - artists shucking convention, being honest, and finding new, exciting ways to visualize, innovate, and edify.

Seriously though, my changing of stance on Snyder had everything to do with my own immaturity and and sense of superiority and nothing to do with how others feel about him. The world really starts to look different once you start peeling that preconceived bullshit away and stop dismissing things based on nonsense that says more about you than what you're dismissing.

Watchmen is really good. I saw 5 minutes of Suckerpunch and thought it was fine but not good enough to watch more or start from the beginning. I'll give it a proper shot some day. Man of Steel is awful. Haven't seen 300.

Love most of his movies, Legend of the Guardians is really great. But I've seen MoS a couple of times now and it doesn't get better.

That's unfortunate. I'm gonna give it another chance but yeah I HAAAATED it in theaters. My buddy who loves Snyder makes a pretty convincing case that MOS wasn't really
Snyder's movie though, which makes sense. His other movies are very well edited and paced, so it seems weird that MOS is such a hyperactive clusterfuck.

Oh, I also watched Here Comes the Boom last night. Someone needs to step up and make a really good MMA movie - this and Warrior ain't cuttin' it.

I'm feeling a lot of anxiety about seeing Mad Max. I want to love it, but knowing that you already love it makes me uneasy. Maybe Stip will hate it and things will balance out.

"Men's Rights" Groups hate it -- they're calling it feminist propaganda -- if that helps you make your decision.
