Seeing them on this tour was a big boost for me.
Me too. They're reenergised in a way I didn't think possible.
Ask me again in three years when they're still playing Europe each summer on the back of the same album.

The fact that I'm on RM rather than the Pit should be some evidence that I'm not the kind of unthinking Pearl Jam fan that gladly laps up everything they piss onto the floor.
Again, what's with constant paranoia and accusations? Let me reiterate the fact that you have no sense of humor, and need to get down off your high horse. I can't comment on anything without you crying like a little girl that I am being "demeaning". Most folks tend to either laugh or ignore it, as with most comments, but you take everything I say personally. I'm actually starting to enjoy antagonizing you because you bring it upon yourself.

Wow, I came in here and shat all over this thread. I'm not sure how I feel about that.
On the other hand, there's always the possibility we'll all come to a consensus on this at some point down the road like we did about No Code and Binaural. Or Backspacer, for that matter.
In other news, the new Arcade Fire leaked.
- Spoiler: show
- It's a million fucking times better than Lightning Bolt.

There's a sliding scale.
Only pearl jam fans really can call arcade fire fans hipsters now.
The hipsters abandoned AF about a before/ after funeral came out.
True fact.

The Soundgarden fans on their board called me a hipster for liking Arcade Fire too. I don't feel bad. And Soundgarden might be my favorite band ever, or darn near close. They were mad because I had the gall to suggest I would probably see Arcade Fire over Soundgarden at Lollapalooza because I doubted SG could carry a huge crowd.

Loyalty and old love plays a strong part. I had the same dilemma last week in Brooklyn with AF and PJ playing shows on the same nights.
But for what it's worth, I'd take AF over SG. over Pj? I don't know and hope I'm never forced to make the call.

I didn't have to make that call but my best friend did, and he chose Arcade Fire because he had seen Soundgarden in a small venue 3 days previous. Between AF and SG is an almost impossible call for me; so is AF and PJ, if only because regardless of how I feel about PJ's newer stuff I still love the hell out of them live.
Honestly, if anybody felt like I insulted their intelligence I'm sorry. I'm just colossally disappointed with Lightning Bolt.

It's a tiny small comfort Matt, but I was hugely disappointed with LB too but then I had a revelation somewhere between the 7th-10th listen.
I know that sounds like bull but it really did fall into place around then.
Keep at it.

I like Lightning Bolt quite a bit, but however much of my life I've dedicated to it, I was always fairly convinced that the new Arcade Fire had a good chance of being better. But I don't need LB to be better than the new AF album.

Lets be grown ups and discard 'better/worse' than for 'like/dislike' more than.

I think that however you feel about it, the fact is that they and their material have changed an awful lot. Whether you're still on board (as I think you said earlier) will depend on whether you can understand where they're going, and go along with it. If you listen to any other bands or kinds of music that can be compared, it might be that you can still love Pearl Jam on a slightly different level, and get a slightly different kind of enjoyment out of their music than you used to. But if not, you won't, and that's cool. I don't think the change from S/T to Lightning Bolt has been a much more drastic change for them as a band than any of the other changes they went through, though. It's just been the opposite trajectory, from fame-avoiding band to, erm... whatever the opposite of that is.

Goes without saying, none of this is objective.
