Right?

There’s people out there that have the whole thing.
Just give me a name and address.
The rest I’ll take care of myself.

We should kidnap Boom

Seriously. For all we know maybe Andrew saved us from a couple of clunkers.

Counterpoint: this band has a track record of keeping great songs unreleased or as b sides.

Choosing which songs to keep and which to leave off is a whole other story.

I'm fairly certain that whatever outtakes/b-sides we hear, I will be replacing Something Special with one of them in our "Retrack Dark Matter" thread.

I prefer a shorter, concise record over a bloated record any day - such as the Chili Peppers with their heaping helping of 17 track albums clocking in at 75 minutes - no thanks. 11 songs, 48 minutes is perfect.

I don't trust the judgement of Pearl Jam regarding to what songs are the good ones so give me a bloated mess that I can rearrange any day

I’m going to withhold judgment until I hear the entirety of something special and in the context of the album, but I suspect in my future retracking of Dark Matter I will wish it were a 10 song album.

Unlikely. Would have been available at midnight.

If there’s a 3rd single it will be like Tuesday or weds. Industry standard now for the final single to come out the week the record is released. I’m not saying they HAVE to do it that way, but they’ve played by those rules for gig. So there is precedent.

One thing that baffles me about this band especially over the past few albums is how do they tend to follow the same pattern with types of songs and the order that they show up on the album. Always open with 2 to 3 rockers, slow down, longer mid tempo, then the obligatory fast, punky song followed by an incongruent vibe shift to a slow, and sometimes cheesy schmaltzy song. Why has this become the formula? Who told them they need to have one punky song and one cheesy schmaltzer on every album, often one after the other?

One thing that was delightful about Gigaton is that it partially broke out of that mold. WES, though a rocker, is a different kind of opener. They don’t have a single punky song (I don’t think ND counts as punky), and I actually really like buckle up following TTLW. Closing on several slower songs was interesting too.

Same. Though I've only heard 30 seconds, it sounds embarrassingly bad.
