If Tejada doesnt try to be super man and turn that double play, hes probably not hurt, and no ones talking about it
I'm still waiting for you to point out where Utley slides, because I've watched that replay a number of times and not once have I seen him do anything remotely resembling a slide. Regardless of what Tejada did, Utley still barrel-rolled into his knees and made zero effort to come anywhere approaching second base.

from my previous post
and if you idiots REALLY watch the play, Utley is setting up for more of a hook slide, anticipating Tejada coming ACROSS the bag
its pretty obvious as hes angling towards the right side of the bag
and as Tejada comes back across the bag, Utley is caught totally off guard and takes a knee to the face.

I said it before I'll say it again. It was a late, hard, aggressive slide, to break up a double play. Which every player is taught to do once you get to the competitive age. IF Tejada does not get hurt on that play, and the rest of the game continues to the same outcome. EVERYONE is talking about how Utleys playing hard rallied the Dodgers to a win.

Instead, Tejada gets hurt on the play, mostly because of his turning back into the bag (which youre taught NOT to do) gets hurt, everyone calls it a dirty slide, and Utley is suspended.

Its a bad slide (form wise)
its a late slide (starting at the bag)

was it dirty? was there intent to do more than just break up the double play? wheres the proof that he wanted to do more than just break up a double play?

Again, I keep asking everyone (and not just on here) What do you all want Utley to do on this play? slide normally in front of the bag, make no contact at all, and watch Tejada turn a double play? turn his competitive juices off and peel off so no one gets hurt?

again, if Tejada comes across the bag (LIKE YOURE TAUGHT) hes most likely not hurt, possibly not even made contact with as he might have been able to jump the leg sweet hook slide Utley was setting up for before the reverse pivot caught him off guard, and were not talking about this at all.

I don't think it was dirty, but he deserves to be suspended based on the results of the play. He was way the hell out of the baseline and he broke Tejada's leg. That's plenty enough to be removed for the rest of that series, considering what the result costs New York.

It's not like Chase Utley not being in the lineup really costs the Dodgers anything.

I don't feel like figuring out who is on what side in this thread. That being said, you can't suspend a guy just because it's now the playoffs for something that happens 100 times during the regular season. Rough that dude's leg was broken but there have been way more obvious plays than that. RM baseball snobs feel free to begin your attack on my view.

Utley's comment on how he "didn't intend to injure" him is like opening fire in a crowded public space and saying that he didn't intend to kill the specific guy that he killed. Even though he may not have specifically meant to break his leg, he meant to collide with him and take him out.

If this is "part of game," why don't batters just take out 1st basemen when running to first? What's the difference?

You're allowed to run through 1st base.

You can make all the excuse you want, but it STILL wasn't a dirty slide. It was a hipcheck.

Not sure, but I assume they're committing to Stroman tomorrow and Price will be available out of the pen both games.

Just seems weird in a 7-1 game.
