I don't think this is a good enough answer. They're alienating you now, right? You're not supposed to like being alienated.
confusing isn't it?
:hooray:

It's my favourite PJ-related thing to speculate on right now.

they don't have it figured out themselves either so there's plenty of room for speculation.

I think they think we're all beer swilling, vedder emblazoned football jersey wearing, dudes who see 10 shows per tour, piss themselves whenever they play present tense and propose to their wives during betterman and say 'stoked' way to much.

Well, it depends what cross-section of the fans you take. If you take the Pit's word for it, we are exactly that.

When I read the last couple of pages of comments I presumed the BOB interview was full of negativity. Sweet Lord. How does anyone read that and turn it into 3 pages of wishing BOB would be quiet, the band is chasing younger generation etc...

This place is too negative. The Pit is too positive.be nice to have some middle ground ;-)

I was just yanking chains..but on a serious note...what exactly IS wrong with his comments? Truly don't mean that in a naive way..just that if he's saying someone who is currently a fan will enjoy the songs and someone who used to be might want to check and will enjoy...etc.. isn't that positive? Or is it that is sounds like he or they are just trying to placate?

What else would he say? " if you love Pearl Jam you'll think it's good. If you don't like them don't bother".

He could have something insightful. Not that ANY of the following things are true, but they all would have been preferable to that same line we heard from Mike & Stone already...

"It's one of their more challenging records," / "It's one of their more instantly rewarding records,"

"It's a very claustrophobic record," / "It's a very expansive record,"

"It's a very focused record," / "It's a very eclectic record,"

I dunno, anything that someone who's heard the album might say in an attempt to describe it. It obviously sounds like a Pearl Jam record. They all do. But they don't all sound the same.

I don't know. He could say any of those things and it wouldn't really mean anything to me.

I want them to talk about the songs, who did what, why is an upbeat composition or a mid tempo one, etc...

I think well get there eventually anyway.

I'm not sure why they aren't talking about it. It comes out in 6 weeks. Not only are they not speaking, but BOB clearly answered the questions asked in that interview with an understanding that the band probably didn't really want him to talk in much detail about the album. Nobody outside their core fanbase cares and they are going to buy the record anyway.....not sure what they seem so afraid of.

Yeah, I think these are all realistic things to want from an interview without being unreasonable. I mean, he's being interviewed because he produced the record, and the best he can do to promote it is say "If you love Pearl Jam, you'll love it,"? He's been working with them for twenty years, he can do better than that.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand. They've surely done several interviews already and they've probably talked about it til they're blue in the face. They're also doing some kind of special PR thing with Steve Gleason and gang. The tracklist reveal proved they actually kind of have their shit together this time.

However, it makes no sense for publications and/or Ten Club to release anything 5-6 weeks before the record comes out. There will be plenty more, at the right time.

My only worry (by this point it's obvious) is that as you say, *the band* is not even talking about it. Brendan O'Brien seems much more invested; I'm OK that he produces albums, but I'm not so OK that he's their spiritual and commercial director. I want someone other than Brendan O'Brien to say something.

He sounds like he's promoting a new-recipe pizza.

But this makes sense. I'm sure it'll all happen closer to the time. It's not as if all the interviews etc. happen live...
