i met Garth at work a couple years ago. i don't care for his music, but he was equally super cool and nice to everyone from the Senior VP to the intern. respect.durdencommatyler wrote:Fuck, No Fences is great. Like legit truly great. I'd forgotten how masterful it is as an album. Side One is perfect.

That's good to hear. His public persona is obviously really cool and accessable and down to Earth. But you never know what people are really like. And then there's all the infidelity.bodysnatcher wrote:i met Garth at work a couple years ago. i don't care for his music, but he was equally super cool and nice to everyone from the Senior VP to the intern. respect.durdencommatyler wrote:Fuck, No Fences is great. Listening to The Chase now.
This one also sounds great on vinyl. But the songs as a whole just aren't as strong. However, the lesser known tracks, the non-hits are definitely stronger on this record than on No Fences. To be fair though, there are only like 2 non-hits on No Fences.

Oddly, I think the back half of The Chase is better than Side A.

The Cowboy Song is top tier Garth. Maybe the best song he's recorded that's not played on the radio. Hell, maybe even the best not titled The Dance. Maybe.

Is that album where he pretended to be a rock star from Australia in the set?

Re: Post Random Music-Related Thoughts You Have
It's weird -- I'm on to Fresh Horses now -- I think I like Fresh Horses more than In Pieces. Which if you asked me yesterday before re-listening to them back to back, I'd have said Fresh Horses was one of his worst records. I think it's solid and holds up nicely. Again, the big hits on In Pieces are far, far superior to the "hits" on Fresh Horses. And there is that super embarrassing Aerosmith song on FH but mostly it's a really consistent listen. The non-hits are strong and there are some on here that should have been hits.

Why didn't anyone check in on him? So unavoidable. Not my fav. artist, but still a huge waste.
