In a vacuum, the approach he took to the Harkonnens is great. I have no issue with the direction he went -- it's striking and powerful. It's just that I think their book appearance, at least for Feyd, would've had more of an impact.

Walken was miscast.Ensign9 wrote:6. I'm not sure if I liked Walken as the emperor or not. There isn't a ton to judge him on. When we first see him just staring into space while Irulan makes moves on the chess board, I think you're supposed to infer he's wrestling with the weight of what he's done. With Walken, you could infer that or that he's singing the Meow Mix jingle in his head.
He's an all-timer, a first ballot hall of famer, to be sure. But he was totally wrong for this part. It would have been a little to wink-wink-nudge-nudgey, but I'd have liked to see Patrick Stewart in the role.

Should’ve just went full on and cast Kyle MacLachlan

While Stewart is great, he has been in too many big roles (Picard, Xavier), to work as the emperor. A bit like Walken.
Charies Dance would be good.

I don't think resume/recognition was the issue with Walken.
Charles Dance would also have been a great cast.

Still processing this one… as I expected, the cinematography was great. Very nice to look at, but I was a little iffy on some of the performances and I thought the plot dragged a bit. I might have to see it again.

I'm unbothered by all of E9's gripes except 4 and 6. We needed some Mentat representation, and Walken is simply too funny to be a convincing Emperor.
Still an incredible movie.

To be fair, the Emperor is kind of a doofus in the book.

Saw this last night. Loved it, although I think it needs another viewing or two.

When I sat down and the previews started - I though to myself 'Really should have gone to the bathroom before sitting down', by the end of the movie I was REALLY wishing I'd gone to the bathroom before entering the theaterMecca wrote:Imagine taking a bathroom break during this epicE.H.
