Nor did I. When I found out where it came from, yikes!

See, I don’t think any of them even know. I think Mickey just signaled and they all honked in agreement.

Speaking of learning, didn't you go to FSU way back? Just found out my beloved UF's gator bait chant has been racist this whole time. :shake: :shake: :shake:
I sure did, but let's not get started on Florida universities and racism...

Yes, if there's one thing that characterizes my RM experience, it's how much everyone here agrees with me.

On a topic that no one here seems to really understand other than identifying what they want to think about it, it's any ship in a harbor my evenbro.

Do you realize how fucked up it is to want me banned because you think I'm "not smart"? And your reasoning for me not being smart is, I'm posing actual facts that challenge your ideology? An ideology which is not fact-based, not reason-based, but simply something you "feel" to be correct?

A big problem in this country is people thinking everyone has to have the same exact opinions they do. I know I come off that way on RM, but I'm really just blowing off steam. I could interact with someone like Josh in real life no problem. I'd do it not because I don't think conservatives are morons, but because I know the polarization leads to nothing.

Same. It's important to be able to talk to people you disagree with. Conversations are all we have to move through our problems together. This is the News and DEBATE forum. Not the News and Agree On Everything forum.

I blended that phrase with this one to better describe the message of the post; stop cowering in fear and post:

“A Ship in Harbor Is Safe, but That Is Not What Ships Are Built For”

Mickey wrote:That's actually the second mascot change, which happened a few years after I left. The first one was the switch from Col. Reb to Rebel Black Bear, which did not go over well. The gas station near my house sold not this exact shirt but a variation on the theme and, well...

That same year some undergrads put a noose around the James Meredith statue (first black student), and though it wasn't articulated as part of the mascot issue it definitely came from the same atmosphere. And of course there's the ongoing state flag debate, calls for the Confederate monuments to come down (which I believe just happened today, actually), renaming streets on campus that are currently named after big slaveowners, etc. FSU doesn't have quite the same campus culture, and the mascot isn't an articulation of white identity, so I don't think it will be nearly as bad, but it will definitely get nasty.
The original image link is broken, but here's a stable one:

This whole discussion has a very chicken and egg feel to it right now. Couldn't the argument be made that your terrible question actually re-enforced presumptions being made about you, the asker?

Could someone reasonably address the question instead of attacking the asker?

If you're referring to this post, I actually meant that Bi_ should take his "woke scare" paranoia to the SJW thread, but it is interesting that you projected yourself into a discussion about white fragility that wasn't about you.
