It's like he took one pass on writing lyrics and said, "yup, we're good."

It has everything a 70s ballad needs, piano, acoustic guitar, some weird guitar tone, lyrics about poverty and rich people...
OMG! A piece of art finally broke vinylguy!
i hate Imagine and this one feels like a b side to that.

At least we have a new weird Ed pose. We'll get a break from this one for a while.

The new cover is lazy.
Im guessing all the pics in the booklet are from a session he did un Barcelona in 2019.

The original Imagine, Eddie Vedder’s cover, or both?

Anyone got this Audible special he's done? Can't get it in Australia.

I can't stand Imagine either. Don't think I'm going to go out of my way to check this song out...

It somehow manages to be worse than "Imagine"

I haven't even heard this song all the way thru. Music is dead.

Getting Pino Palladino to play on this thing is like inviting Eric Ripert to help prepare Thanksgiving dinner and then shitting all over the floor and asking him to clean it up.

The piano player sounds like they’re learning the song as they go, as well.
I’m really glad he’s rediscovered such joy in making music again. And, to be honest,70’s and 80’s schmaltzy ballads were too omnipresent in my youth for me to not have a spot of warmth in my heart for that type of sound. Shrug. I’d also rather he flat-out make whatever dork shit he honestly wants to make than have him try and tuck it into some desperate Facsimile Jam thing like Sirens.
Allowing yourself to make Fogelberg music when your heart is pouring out Fogelberg music is a vastly better scenario than trying to force a punk/Neil Young record while your heart is pouring out Fogelberg.
Gigaton demonstrated that he can still be a part of a Pearl Jam aesthetic, so long as other people take the wheel. But it’s been evident for years that his inner ear was spilling over with this happy husband / doting dad stuff, and I think a solo career is a good spaghetti strainer for it. I’ve been rooting for this guy for too long to want him to not have it, if it’s what he really wants.
But I don’t like the lyrics, and it’s not a song I would seek out.

I think this is just a really bad example of that kind of sound
I like some soft-rock, and I often even enjoy schmaltz. The aesthetic isn't really the problem, IMO, it's the writing

Dan Fogelberg is from my hometown. There is a street named after him starts at the river, goes past some dumpy industrial backlots, a DCFS office, a sporting goods store called 'Sports R Us,' and ends at the convenience store he wrote about in "Same Old Lang Syne," which on Google maps is labelled as 'Dan Fogelberg Convenience Store' (its real name is the Short Stop Food Mart). It is across the street from a laundromat called 'Get the Funk Out Laundromat.'
I can only hope that going down this creative path yields Eddie similar honors when his number is up.
