You'd be surprised how many people on the Pit dislike Backspacer, by the looks of it. As for people liking the new stuff, maybe it's time you started to try and get over that.

yeah, the pit have caught on. it just took a while because they're so slow. but it's almost as unpopular there as it is here.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the fan base has probably not changed all that much since binaural, if not earlier.

the fan base has turned on every record since at least binaural (as long as i've been reading message boards), and then changed their minds years later. It's a dance as old as time. If you pay close attention you can watch the process starting with S/T. Within two years it will be a beautiful butterfly

It is a beautiful butterfly, squashed to death.

Glad I never cared for what the fanbase thinks.

There are some in the ranks who are warming to S/T simply because their perception is that PJ records have got progressively worse since then

Its always the same perception. Vitalogy sucks! No code is release so now Vitalogy is great and No Code sucks!

THAT happened for real.

I think it's the fact that ST is starting to look like their last in-the-moment rock record. Way less cleaning up and evening out of rough edges than the last two records, and way more genuine (versus calculated) swagger and simper. That will go a long ways towards impacting how people see it long term.

I still think it's a pretty boring record, myself. Maybe it'd make a good EP...it'd be interesting to see what a remix and remaster did to it, but that would only serve to make the more listenable songs sound less abrasive.

BoB is the weak link, if you're not into the spit and polish. And it sounds like they're still having disagreements (based on that Dutch article), so we may get another one with a less "fixed" feel.

I don't think they're having disagreements. Eddie's been trying to make stuff less poppy than BoB forever. If anything Bo'B keeps saying they're all easier to work with now.

Yeah but you read the article, right? It's very recent and said explicitly that BoB would like them to move in a more poppy direction but the band won't let him take them there. It was a short article and that was basically all it said, so it felt a bit more decisive than yeah, they're difficult but everything is fine. Is that news-worthy?

Nothing Bo'Bs been saying is newsworthy and yet he's everywhere  They might go with someone else next time, i'm just saying im sure i've read bo'b saying that before, possibly multiple times. And the band have said it before too.

Right. Well, here's hoping. Last time BoB spoke it sounded like he was ready for the next one... :|

I wonder what they intend with poppy or mainstream.

Further than "Sirens", I'd imagine. Just a guess but I'd imagine BoB wants PJ to churn out more formulaic radio-friendly stuff akin to the stuff people are comparing that song to.

Sometimes I'm not sure how Brendan is the same guy that produced Mastodon fairly recently.
