didn't get to start today, but i downloaded the my fitness pal app, and just entered my regular food intake as i went, and it tells me that i'm in starvation mode and don't eat enough
i mean i don't eat often, so this was a good discovery before i started..

my aunt wants to buy me the shoes for my birthday this week, so i figure the day after will be a good marker, then come back in a year and see where I'm at :)

looking forward to doing this properly.

A nice 7 mile run under the belt yesterday. A good recovery after a fairly disastrous half marathon 10 days ago - I ran having not fully recovered from illness and it was a thoroughly unpleasant 2 hours.

I also ran the San Francisco half marathon about 6 weeks ago and would recommend that to anyone, particularly if you want a challenge with hills!

I'm thinking a day off running tomorrow and back to it Tuesday.

Edit: I have lost 20 lbs since December.
Nice work man, great results!

Have you ever done Bay to Breakers? I'm suppose to be part of a centipede next year.

I was in SF on holiday so did the half while there, so not a regular in the area. Bay to Breakers looks fun though!

Thanks man. Saw another low on the scale last night and I'm now where I was when I was a competitive deadlifter, that being said I certainly still have some fat to lose but I need to work in some resistance training to displace some of that weight.

Tuesday evening I got in another 3.106 and felt pretty beat after, taking a look at my calories I drastically cut them after Jamestown and my subsequent break so I need to up those again promptly. Got in a quick two miles after some shoulder/trap work last evening, bumping up .2 mph every .2 mile, nothing crazy but I want to get my weekly mileage back up there.

Oh and no pain in the leg, knee, ITB. Some stiffness the mornings after, since I'm now running primarily at night, but that should ease in time.

50K in 4:22

Double loop on the Pemberton Trail out in Fountain Hills. Ran with my buddy who's prepping for a hundred miler. We did the first loop too fast, then paid for it on the second. 2:02/2:20 split. I probably could have finished in 4:10 or so, but despite his insistence to run ahead, I stayed with buddy who really started to struggle at the end. Understandable considering this is a 150-mile week for him and I did fuck all.

My legs are pretty fucked right now.

Got four miles on the trail with the pups yesterday, ran out to get some GU packets then hit the trail myself. Didn't have much in the tank and I also forgot water but it was a great day, didn't want to miss out on it. First time really running the trails around my house... lord are they not marked well. Ended up doubling up in various places but got a solid six miles in, no leg pain (actually they felt pretty good after) just some nasty lactic acid in the first few miles.

Five weeks til Newport and feel less worried than my last race.

Ran twice this week. Took a full 3 days off after my 50K run. Both runs were on trails and the desert is currently a ridiculous shade of green. Saw a shitload of rattlers on my Wednesday run. I guess they were drying themselves out after all the rain we've had recently. My favorite trail was not damaged by the rain, which I was really worried about because erosion is already a major concern there.

The manager of my local running shop was doing a 50K in a week from now, I said good luck to her and silently said someday in my head.

Looking to push my normal Sunday long run to tomorrow since a wedding will take most of the day/eve, my legs have been feeling quite good even with some mile sprints on the tread. I wish I had an indoor track near-by, may just head to a local school track at night for some laps.

7.5 miles with 2,400 in elevation change in 62 minutes

Another trail run this morning. Felt solid as hell. Switched to my New Balance Minimus road shoes instead of the 790s. They held up well and had enough grip to hold the trails. Again a ton of rattlers out. I saw 3 along the wash/river bed the trail cuts through. Also a shitload of hikers. My mp3 player that I've had for 8 years finally shit the bed, so I actually took my cell and was able to snap a pic of a rattler. I may hit another trail again tonight.

Damn, I fucking love the desert. Despite all the shitty, super-conservative assholes in this state, I can't see ever leaving here.

10 miles in 68 minutes

Great run. Snowbirds were out in full force on the canal. Mid-September seems pretty early for them to be back. Even split.

Only ended up running one trail this weekend. :?

Sorry, just now noticed this.

In my opinion, nothing will help your times more than mile repeats. They build both speed and endurance. I try to limit the break in between repeats to 2 minutes. Nice work, man!

I was actually pretty happy with how good they felt and the increased speed recently has been a plus. How many repeats would you suggest? I did find them fun as well (just mixing it up) so hopefully I won't regret that statement.

I got the pups out on the trail for another four miles yesterday then hit the pavement myself; I was dehydrated and hadn't eaten for a while so it wasn't the best time to head out but I did anyway, the weather was perfect. Logged seven miles without water at a fair pace, leg got a bit tight toward the end but I wasn't surprised seeing as I picked a shitty time. Basically I ran to try and clear my head, which usually works... I just focus on the running, but that was not the case unfortunately.

I started adding some resistance training again since my weight keeps dropping in an effort to displace some, the runs are four to five days a week.

I would do 4 or 5 of them. Any more than that and they stop being fun. I generally look at speedwork as an in between or XT workout, so I want to keep the workout to less than 45 minutes. Instead of increasing the amount, increase the speed. You should feel tired, but not wasted afterward.

If you want to turn it into a "full" run day, do a 2- or 3-mile warm up and cool down.

When you guys talk about 'repeats' are these the same as interval running?

I believe intervals can range from jogs, to walks, to pace runs to sprints and varying the times; repeats are basically sprinting a flat pace (i.e. a mile for myself currently) then a few mins of walking/breathing then repeat. Both would fall under endurance/speed work as long as you push yourself I suppose, I have zero idea how fast I really am so I'm trying to embrace the sprints... plus it makes the miles go by faster amazingly, one foot in front of the other realizations.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
