Yknow, if you want the song really ruined on you,
Read the lyrics while listening to it and imagine ed is singing from Michael Jacksons perspective to a little pal on a sleepover
Mind blown
He even references the circus at neverland.
My friends are cunts.

Black is by far the the cheesiest most overwrought hamfisted clunker in the Pj catalogue.
This is not that at all.

Everything is true here except for the word "clunker".dimejinky99 wrote:Black is by far the the cheesiest most overwrought hamfisted clunker in the Pj catalogue.

Seriously, take all the angst and minor chords away from "Black" and this is what you get. Everyone has always known this except for Pearl Jam fans.

I still hate this song and everything it represents about current day pearl jam.
It was until now. But it also had youth, naivety and a more interesting melody on its side. I thought they grew out of that shit, but apparently they were just waiting till thier sales needed a kick up ass.dimejinky99 wrote:Black is by far the the cheesiest most overwrought hamfisted clunker in the Pj catalogue.

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
A few more thoughts.
Quiet and peaceful listens really help this.
I don't really care for mikes solo
The song comes together quite nicely in the end
I wish it was 90 seconds shorter, especially given its place on the record
I am not urge why this wasnt a closer. Ending the record on 'the fear goes away lyric would have been nice, and then those has
Future days may feel redundant after this
Lightning bolt follows it quite well
This will be an occasion song I think. Something I'll quite enjoy in the right mood, but probably not a song for heavy rotation

I think that's way to cynical. Mike has been into these kinds of songs for a while, and Ed has been writing this kind of stuff for a while too.stupidmop wrote:PJam_82 wrote:Any female opinions yet from non-uber PJ fans? Apparently "way too cynical" is stupidmop's default setting. Stip's right. Pearl Jam have terrible tastes in music and always have. We're just beginning to see it, really?

I dunno I just hear 'play me on the radio' and that's all. If they had left as an album track it would have been weird and kinda funny and I still wouldn't have liked it but I would have been able to believe there was something else to it to the band other than obrien going ' single, check'.
I'm a pretty recent fan in that all thier albums bar this one are the same age to me, I guess I was naively holding on to the hope that they'd do something as awesome(to me) as one of the pre riot act albums. And that's my fault cause that was more than ten years ago and is a stupid thought.
I'll try and not clog up the board today with emo 'why does this band hate me' drivel
