I think, if anything, your question struck me as uncharacteristic to what I know of you as a person. Also why I was surprised when the link was posted and your first comment was "why did he try to speed away?". I've seen RMers defend some heinous shit, sometimes under the guise of "just asking questions" or "just playing devil's advocate". I thought perhaps you were going that route. I'm glad you're not, and I'm sorry I interpreted it that way.
That's why I added the...
I'm not trying to set up a larger point.
I'm just really fascinated by people that don't do what they are told when the cops stop them cause I think I would bend right over. Also in the back of my mind I was thinking of that kid who got pulled over at a DUI stop and challenged the cop on everything. I wouldn't do that and sort of admire but at the same time think he's nuts for doing that. Though I will acknowledge asking right after that link and you guys not having direct access to my mind that I also thinking about another incident could definitely lead to a negative conclusion. So I apologize to you Jorge but not Chud.

bada asked legit questions. It's important to the discussion of "police intimidation/authoritative respect" what people think they would do in these situations. The fact that THIS cop in THIS situation freaked out and shot this guy is only as pertinent as every time a cop pulls someone over and everything goes smooth. There is a very real problem with police brutality and excessive force in this country that I think stems from, in the short and simple version, the anti-terror/militarization of police training, but that doesn't absolve all of us of the responsibility to figure out how different behavior from both civilians and cops can minimize these tragedies. You guys are not helping the problem any more than those that DO attempt to blame the victim, which bada was not.

Not sure what a whiny, bitchy, self-righteous tool has to do with this thread.

Darren Wilson seems to be doing pretty well.

Real shame. Sounds like a sweet heart.

Perhaps I am being too generous, but I'd chalk up Wilson's actions to incompetence more than malice. Either way, hopefully no police dept ever hires him again.

My neighbor started the police academy last month, and I'm relieved that he didn't complete it. He seems like a nice, decent person. In other words, he has no business being a police officer considering what that currently means.

yea, that would be a horrible thing to bring in someone decent and perhaps have that rub off on some folks

It definitely reads like someone who was more incompetent than anything else. He certainly lacked many attributes one would think is needed for a competent police officer. I do not feel any sympathy for any shit/criticism he has received either.

At least he didn't demand that the police department give him his job back like the Cincinnati based officer who was fired for killing a man during a traffic stop.

Sadly, it appears that corruption and cruelty are the traits that rub off. Honesty gets decent cops pushed out or marginalized. Maybe there are some departments out there where cops don't get punished for calling out impropriety, but I'm not optimistic.

Very true. It's been the way for what seems like decades as well. It's just that now it's all bubbling up at least that's my perspective on it. I say that because it seems like everyone of these shit heads was a second or third generation cop. Every. Single. One. So they know and understand very well "what it" takes to make it.

Wilson insisting on working the beat he did was where he messed up. He should have been self aware enough to know he would never build rapport in the community. Should have been a small town cop or worked in the suburbs.

Yep. That lack of self-awareness you hit on I think is also a pretty big key.

The guy who murdered the memphis cop is claiming he was attacked. What slogan will the protesters come up with?

his whole demeanor and way he is handling it just screams he's an asshole with no empathy whatsoever. Absolutely no regret, he is "standing his ground" in that he did the right thing. I get why one might want to do that, but soften up a bit and at least acknowledge "wow, this sucks, i wish it didnt go down like this but this is what i thougth was right"

With the possibility of a civil suit still being out there, he can't really risk admitting any mistake.

Of course, but the guy shows absolutely no remorse whatsoever. "yea, im a cop, i did the right thing and its never easy to take a life. yadda yadda"

The guy is stone cold d bag
