I don't remember anything about Sponge but I watched the video of Plowed and it was some serious garbage.

It's 2015. Of course Sponge sounds ludicrous to someone just hearing them for the first time -- they sound like everything that was ridiculous about the 1990's. I don't think anyone (except for maybe Peeps) is trying to make Sponge fans out of anyone else, just sharing their nostalgic appeal. I'm sure we all have bands that retain nostalgic appeal for us despite the fact that we'd actively avoid them if we heard them for the first time today.

I remember taping "Wax Ecstatic" off the radio when it premeired and staying up until about 4 in the morning listening to it over and over and over. It was a big deal song during the summer of '96 for me.

Oh I have plenty of horrible nostalgic music/memories. I'll try to post in here more often.

Might be that I just really dislike that kind of singing in the part from 0:50 onwards. The "la la la"-singing from 1:30 onwards is also something that just doesn't sound pleasant to me.

Not me, KD, every band I love is untouchable and beyond reproach.

Put them all together like that and it's easy to see mainstream '90s alt-rock was pretty boring outside of a handful of artists and some big hits elsewhere.

Is it just me, or does the Sponge song "Plowed" sound kinda like Social Distortion? That guys voice and the drums are what's making me think that.
