Treated myself to a macro lens and I'm loving the shit out of it. Don't quite know what I'm doing, but it's a lot of fun.

Looks like you're doing just fine, FJ. Macro is all about getting that shallow depth of field just right, which typically means getting the eyes in focus (when you're working with insects). Your first and third shots are great examples of that.

Yeah, focusing with the shallow depth of field is what I struggled with the most- especially with moving insects.

I'm glad I got it. It's a great portrait lens, too.

Yeah i've been slack. Winter was brutal here and it's tough to get out to do much shooting when the snow is 6 feet deep  .

that's a bigger hassle than you realize, mr. Australian 8-) . The time when the snow is the most interesting to shoot is also the time when it's the most dangerous to be out driving. Or maybe i'm just so fuggin sick of it that I rarely see the beauty in it anymore.

However, it's been warm and rainy for the past couple of weeks so the snow is mostly gone now save for a few large piles here and there. But here's a couple snaps from back in February. My bride and I were snowed in and couldn't leave the house to go to work that day. Not my finest work (it was -25C!) but it's about all I did outdoors this winter.

ANZAC day is a day when Australians and New Zealanders honour those who have served in our armed forces. Starting last year I resolved to attend the parade each year and take portraits of the servicemen and women at the end of their march. My 2015 series is here.

We had some bad storms last night but I didn't think they were THIS bad. I will not be driving down this street for awhile.

This looks so fun!! Of course I'm a psycho and love cold/the snow. This was the first winter in years I didn't get to dust off my sled. :(

There's a certain softness to the colors in zeb's pictures that I like a lot.
