Have you given any thought to your #2 strategy when you finally get up to those hour and a half long runs?lennytheweedwhacker wrote:decent…I’m not consuming much added sugar outside of sweet tea or half and a half a few times a week…I’ve found incorporating a cheeseburger every now and then has really helped my bowel movement thowashing machine wrote:So what's everyone's diet like these days?
i did look at the fartlkes a few days ago, and a few other guides...a lot of them were 800m or more and i know i can't do that very many times...it's why yesterday i did the 2 minutes on 1 minute off as i read it's similar to 400s...i just need to get out and experiment because i feel lie i'm going to plateau, even though i've gotten better lately, by just doing 5k every time i go outwashing machine wrote:I haven't really done any training except for consistently running 4 days a week and slowly increasing mileage. I was clocking low 27s for a 5k as recently as June. Just stick with it. With my longer runs, I'm really starting to understand how to start slooow and let my pace gradually build. It translates to better endurance for shorter runs like a 5k. Quite simply, I am now aware of what a faster pace feels like and how long I can hold it for. I feel more beat up and burned after a 5k than an 8 mile run, hands down. In a good way.
I am toying around with injecting some speed into my longer runs lately, though. Google fartleks. Nothing official, training wise, but it is fun to push it for faster paces every once in a while.
Also, Google Yasso 800s and strides. If you want to do some speed training, those workouts sound right up your alley.

You'll definitely need a bathroom strategy at that age. With or without the long runs. Give it some thought.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:i will be 50 before i can run that longwashing machine wrote:Have you given any thought to your #2 strategy when you finally get up to those hour and a half long runs?lennytheweedwhacker wrote:decent…I’m not consuming much added sugar outside of sweet tea or half and a half a few times a week…I’ve found incorporating a cheeseburger every now and then has really helped my bowel movement thowashing machine wrote:So what's everyone's diet like these days?

i'm probably doing something wrong, but my best times have been when my first mile was the fastest...there have been more than a few times when i tried to what i called for lack of a better term "manufacturing my pace"...sometimes that would be try to do both the first two miles at 9:30 or 10:00 each, then try to push myself on the third mile...sometimes i ended up around my normal pace and other times i was a little slower, but who knows could just depend on those particular days and whatever anomalies
edit: i should also add if i try to run at a very slow to moderate pace and walk less, my overall time is a good bit worse...i usually end up walking at least .25-.30 miles every time
i usually run at the greenway and there are plenty of trees i can go hide behind...the biggest problem is that i may have to wipe a lot so i could really use recommendations as to the best way to keep a large roll of toilet paper on me as i runwashing machine wrote:You'll definitely need a bathroom strategy at that age. it really is a mystery...i think i'm going to just do my normal 5k's twice a week and intervals once or twice, just depending on how i feel and my schedule...i'm going to be more concerned with increasing my amount or distance on intervals vs my regular 5k timeswashing machine wrote:I don't really know what to tell you. you don’t need to wipe. the government wants you to wipe, and wash your hands to prevent spreading germs and illness.
