My goodness. So good to hear she’s out ok.

Law enforcement are trained to be able to identify themselves properly and in more than one way. They were barricaded behind a door with no windows, so if a shooter knocked and said police, they needed to be cautious. Even just the question “how do we know you are police” could be enough to agitate an imposter. But since they had phone and Internet access, simply asking what their office non-emergency number us would be a quick test that they would know but more than likely the shooter would not. Lastly, if the door is well barricaded and they have time, they could announce they are calling 911 to verify law enforcement is there. An officer would understand. Fortunately in this situation, the professor in the room with her was in contact with law enforcement through her cell phone and was able to be told exactly when they would be at the door. But i wanted her to be as prepared as possible for that situation since they had no visuals outside of their room

Sounds like it was a targeted attack. The grad student that got arrested shot and killed a specific faculty member and others in the area knew who he was and were able to tell police right away who they were looking for. I don’t think they’ve found the gun yet, though.

Also it’s still surreal that i was texting her all of this during a real life situation. It’s actually triggered some shit for me and I’m feeling very zombie like tonight

ugh thats terrible, so sorry you went through that. i dunno if its any consolation or will help you feel better, but thats great advice you gave your daughter and being able to do it in real time probably made her and her classmates feel a tiny bit safer.

people need to learn how to argue or work out differences that don't involve shooting. I wonder what the perceived "fear for life" was on either end? Proably nothing but just being angry and using the gun as a quick fix.
