having sansa get there on her own, and turn littlefinger's methods against him, was also a nice growth moment
I agree. Over the whole season there are ways they could have solved the development at Winterfell a little better, but the ending was well done, and an important moment for Sansa.stip wrote:having sansa get there on her own, and turn littlefinger's methods against him, was also a nice growth moment
Too bad, we'll never know.stip wrote:i look forward to seeing how Martin ends the books, if for no other reason to see how much of what people don't care for is the fact that the story is ending.
I'm not sure what you like about Theon's story. That scene fell flat because it was entirely unearned. Redeeming Theon is a Herculean task that I don't athink is possible, ultimately. Therefore, no matter what they do, it will feel unearned and fall flat. They should just kill him.stip wrote:While I like Theon's story quite a bit, his final scene winning over his men fell a little flat, and the Jon parentage 'reveal' felt anticlimactic (not sure how it could have been otherwise, though).
As much as I love the show and Aya specifically, I think the execution of her story since arriving in Braavos has suffered from being far too rushed and condensed.stip wrote:the overall execution here suffered the most from the condensed storytelling, as arya's distrust was far too rushed. its one of the only places where the storytelling suffered beyond the suspension of disbelief with travel times (which was a narrative contrivance that didnt really impact people's character choices, actions, or development)
I'll have to rewatch but if Sansa didn't conspire with Arya, she certainly conspired with Bran otherwise she couldn't have known some of things she accused Littlefinger with.Bi_3 wrote:Dare I say #TeamStip?stip wrote:Finally saw it. More moving pieces into place, but still satisfying. Jon's line about truth was great, glad to see Jamie and Theon move on, the scene with Cersei and Tyrion was very strong, and a great visual at the end. Also enjoyed Littlefinger's death
I'm not 100% sure they did at all, until Sansa called out littlefingerMonkey_Driven wrote:At what point did Sansa and Arya start conspiring together? Some of their scenes in episode 6 were in private. Was that just for show?
Sansa and Arya didn't conspire, Sansa realized Arya was testing her and littlefinger was playing her. A grand plot between them would have cheapened the story as neither of them was that type of character. Sansa explained it pretty clearly.
i agree she has been rushed since leaving for braavos. she, more than anyone, has a larger story that doesnt sit easily within the timeframe of the books.durdencommatyler wrote:As much as I love the show and Aya specifically, I think the execution of her story since arriving in Braavos has suffered from being far too rushed and condensed.stip wrote:the overall execution here suffered the most from the condensed storytelling, as arya's distrust was far too rushed. its one of the only places where the storytelling suffered beyond the suspension of disbelief with travel times (which was a narrative contrivance that didnt really impact people's character choices, actions, or development)
The greatest tragedy of never finishing the books will be never seeing how Arya SHOULD have played out.
Waste of a great character. Waste of a great actress.
i have a longer defense of this but have 9 straight hours of meetings in 20 minutes. please remind me to come back to this if I forget. i want to try and persuade youdurdencommatyler wrote:Too bad, we'll never know.stip wrote:i look forward to seeing how Martin ends the books, if for no other reason to see how much of what people don't care for is the fact that the story is ending.

D&D are also now in danger of undermining one of the key themes of the story, one of the things that has made the story so good all along, by having Theon swoop in a rescue poor, defenceless, damsel Yara. I hope that doesn't happen the way they are setting it up. That's gonna be gross if it does. And also completely unearned.
Finally, I think the montage is what killed Jon's parentage "reveal." They should have had the Sam/Bran scene (with more reactions from Bran about why he didn't see all of that before + realizations about the limits of his power + hints at actual consequence -- remember when Bran shouldn't be doing all that green-seeing because it was dangerous for some reason?
Then show Jon & Dany and Tyrion in the shadows. Cut Bran's voiceover and just let the scenes play out. After an hour and a half it felt rushed, like an afterthought. It also felt like the Compete Idiots Guide to GoT. Trust the audience, team. Most of us already knew anyway.
