For about 50% of this movie that’s exactly the face I was making with added tears.

Not a spoiler at all but all of us that have followed the new canon? Rebels the comics and the books?

Payoff. Loads of payoff.

Mine were very much vocal and obvious.

You were right. It’s already settling.

Got another viewing in 50 mins

Read the following in a review (no spoilers, but I'll tag it)
Spoiler: show
There are perhaps a half-dozen of them: goose-pimple inducing, fist-pump encouraging, heart-racing bursts of cinematic satisfaction. The problem is that the narrative threads connecting them are lazily knitted and sometimes tangled or broken. The overall plot is underwhelming and there’s far too much padding, especially during the first hour.

Perhaps the most telling thing we’ve learned from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi is that George Lucas was right with his 2005 claim (later reversed) that there wouldn’t be an Episode VII because there was no more story to tell. Filmmakers can bring back Han, Luke, and Leia but that doesn’t mean there’s a compelling narrative for them.

Agree with some of that. It’s definifely tangled. But It’s better at being George’s vision of Saturday morning episodic fantasy than George ever managed to be. Ever c

Will go as far as to say he was so determined for this not be Empire he drove to the edge of the map and threw everything over and went back with his own notions. It works and when it works it works really well. It’ hits hard. When it doesn’t it’s almost embarrassing

Ok hand on heart.

It’s way more enjoyable and makes more sense on the second viewing.

Where the fuck does Star Wars go after that??

I do not envy JJ Abrams the task in front of him.

This film is Brad Pitt at the end of Seven screaming ‘what’s in the box?’

That’s how I feel right now.

I'm guessing there be a gap of a few years, rather than an immediate continuation. I think that would work better.

that very last scene with the kids? Way too direct and in the nose but 100% JJ abrams / super 8. Soooooo bizarre to put that there. So weird.

IT left everyone I was with confused until I explained it so it’s not a spoiler to let people know, the golden dice you see? (Twice)

They’re Hans. From the cockpit of the falcon.

They for some reason cut the scene in TFA when you see him back in the cockpit the first time and he hangs them up.

I watched the double bill last night, so TLJ was midnight.

I don't even know what to say. There is so much to unpack and discuss!

I fucking LOVED it, though.
