Not to mention 'I'll Stick Around', 'Floaty' and 'Exhausted'.

That new Coldplay song "orphans" is awful. But I guarantee it will show up during the Olympics for an inspirational piece

I’m kind of fascinated by the Bonnie Tyler album Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire. It’s maybe the most excessive example of expensive-sounding ‘80s pop maximalism I’ve ever heard, with layers upon layers of sound piled on top of each other in ways that sound almost unhinged - one can almost picture clouds of cocaine hanging in the air of the studio. And some of the songs are LONG (6 minutes! 7 minutes! 8 minutes!), with extended instrumental sections that nearly devolve into cacophony. But because there is so much sound assaulting you and so many quickly shifting pockets of melody, the album never becomes boring - it’s just too wild.

I mean, just listen to the opening track (which I think is about having sex outdoors???) - it’s out of control:

Another interesting note about this album: The songwriter wasn’t happy that “If You were a Woman (and I was a Man)” didn’t become the huge hit he hoped it would, so he later reused the melody as the basis for a song that did: Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name”.

Extra fun fact: That opening track is Jim Steinman reusing a song he'd written as Hulk Hogan's pre-Real American theme song.

i listened to the album the other day and it was immediately forgettable. I was more annoyed at the crappy turntable used to rip it than how bad the music was.

It's well known here in the states that the members of Green Day are not circumcised. Pun intended

I somehow ended up listening to Zappa's Zoot Allures via Spotify the other day and I loved it.

I moved onto Sleep Dirt and I enjoyed the living hell out of that too, so I guess I'm finally gearing up for my "Zappa phase".
