The Matt C. interview with Pinfield is pretty funny...I'm 90% certain Matt has not thought for one second about these songs since he left the studio two years ago lol.

Oh my gosh gosh gosh, Something Special continues to sound worse and worse and worse:

“And if the night goes long/not feeling loved/I will be there/And not ’cause it’s my job/I work for free ’cause/You are both special.”

I thought it was funny too because I have to imagine he needs to be thinking about them for the upcoming tour in like 3 weeks? lol

I suspect for Something Special to work you just have to fully lean into what it is.

This review seems to confirm we've heard the pre chorus of Wreckage with the backing vocals.

But if I end up turning this into a 10-song album, so be it.

Wreckage was the rumored first single. Wonder what the hell happened.

Three theories:


A: Dark Matter did well enough that they decided they could save this for a post release (or on release) single and DM could sustain the interim

B: Wreckage wouldn't work well in the March Madness highlight reels promotions they were doing (unlike, say, something special)

C: It's a great single choice and Pearl Jam isn't good at picking singles

as a drummer, it's pretty normal to not know anything about the songs, just vaguely know how to play them; because you're not part of their melodic or lyrical construction (which is not the case for Matt's own solo work)

Interesting. Did not know that. Last time I checked in with her, I was watching some of her shows in Amsterdam from last October, but, I'll definitely go back and check out some footage from that tour...thanks!

It was pretty surprising when I was watching some stuff from that PJ era and saw him playing. That was back in 2004, I had no idea he's been kicking around that long.

It's funny he talks more like he is a session drummer for the band than being an actual member.

im pretty sure he has been in PJ longer. i think he has recorded more albums. probably played more shows

This approach enhances all of the songs.

I'm damn near in love with Running and its glorious bridge and still don't understand some of the hate for it on here. That said, it's choice as a single continues to baffle me because while great, it won't appeal to radio masses. The little (but great) piece I've heard of Wreckage, now backed by several positive critic reviews seems to have been the better 2nd single choice. The answer is clearly C
