So I umpire as a 2nd job, and after the play in the top 7th of the Jays/Rangers game, I called a friend of mine who also dons the blue and neither of us had any clue what the rule was there before that play happened. His father, who also umpires and is in charge of our group said the same. It's amazing how a sport as old as baseball can still have things like this come up that no one has ever seen before.

I'm sure part of the reason you've never seen it before is because they just made up a new rule this year about staying in the batter's box (is that technically a correct term?).

Exactly! I've always hated when those pesky announcers call it a batter's box! I scream mercilessly at my television every time. "It's two-dimensional! How can it be a box!?!?"
