that was meant to follow Jorge's post
Again, not so important that it justifies complete domination of the headlines, front pages, top news stories, etc. to the degree it has. Do you really think 12 different groping stories should come before news on Syria or Iraq or Black Lives Matter, or any of dozens of other important things going on in the world that news media is supposed to cover? Because Trump might be president, everything he does supersedes everything else? madness.Strat wrote:These stories about trump are important. He wants to be president, which will impact all of those other international stories about syria, russia, etc... Stories about trump are important.
That's a good tip.theplatypus wrote:Pro tip: next time you're on the CNN website, click on the little Edition section on the top right corner of the page and switch from the US edition to the International edition. Way less clickbait-y Trump stuff.BurtReynolds wrote: No I'm not. I'm not talking about emails. I'm talking about major democratic party changes in the heat of a presidential election, based on a failure to do their job. But I'm not even talking about the election. What about Syria? Russia? Any of the other dozens of things that are going on that are, yes, more important than twenty year old groping allegations? These aren't left/right election stories, but they are barely mentioned. This is deliberate, and has little to do with newsworthiness.
Yes, nothing else matters. Are you the head honcho of Huffpo?Strat wrote:They should just have a running live updated blog of everything terrible trump does throughout the day. I agree.
I was agreeing with you, idiot. I said put it all into one live blog.BurtReynolds wrote:Yes, nothing else matters. Are you the head honcho of Huffpo?Strat wrote:They should just have a running live updated blog of everything terrible trump does throughout the day. I agree.
It is a bit of a chicken and egg scenario, sure, but that doesn't mean that the media isn't intentionally misleading people in order to take down Trump. Again, many people are probably more than OK with that given what's at stake, but it's a hard thing to ponder if you look past the election horizon. What other ideological goals might the media consider worth lying for? His core supporters dont search out the news or care to look into anything deeper than "make america great again fuck muslims"Bi_3 wrote:Of course. But the perception is that the bias has become so extreme it's to the point where the veracity of the reporting is being questioned. I don't question that many leaders in media feel a moral obligation to stop what they believe to be a type of fascism gaining power, but I worry they are trading a short term win (no Trump) for a long term loss (the hardening of 2/5 of the population against them).cutuphalfdead wrote:so much thisMcParadigm wrote:The idea that a fair media will or should always inevitably devote equal or near equal time to both candidate's qualities or scandals is deeply fallacitic.
I think your argument is with the public, more than some conspiracy on the part of the media. The national broadcast networks lean into the content that drives higher ratings, and Trump drives rating. People turn on the television when the Donald is on and turn it off when Syria pops up. I would love to see more in-depth coverage of some of these issues (which, coincidentally, would push everything unearthed about the Clintons from the WikiLeaks releases even further off the front page), but I also agree with chud that it's impossible to argue that the Republican nominee for president might be a habitual sexual assaulter is not a massive story
That isn't all of it. Many of these networks also desperately want Trump to lose the election. To be clear, I desperately want Trump to lose the election. He most certainly should lose the election. But that doesn't change the fact that most news media outlets routinely act in a biased way against candidates they don't like. At least recognize it. Be aware of it, even if you agree with it.cutuphalfdead wrote:That's what it is. They're going to put the stories on the top that are most likely to generate clicks. It's the inherent problem with capitalist journalism.
