When has David Hogg ever really thought about the consequences of school shootings in America?

I struggle with the concept that gross negligence leading to another person committing a crime should result in a life sentence. And something like 80% of gun homicides committed by minors are done with weapons taken from the home. Are we ready to convict that many parents?

hmmm lets take this particular example.
kid makes online threats against his classmates and school
FBI makes a visit but can not really do too much because state has no redflags laws
2 months later the father purchases a automatic weapon for the kid
kid then kills students and teachers with the gun that was purchased for him. after making threats and after having the FBI show up and talk to he and his father
do the other siblings suffer from losing their parent to jail time? yes. maybe the father should have thought this through. i wouldnt worry about david hogg thinking things through.
if a bartender can be charged for serving a visibly drunk patron i would hope and pray that we can charge an adult who bought the weapon

In you bartender example, that is because the bartender has direct experiential knowledge of the present situation and the risk their action presents in exacerbating it. Hogg makes no such conditionals in his statement, only that an unsecure weapon used in a shooting means life sentences for the parents. He says nothing about FBI visits. Nothing about red flag laws. Unsecure gun, shooting, charges that lead to life in prison. I would ask you to consider this situation: Family is in a bad neighborhood. Kid associating with questionable people, known felons. Parents sleep with gun available 'just in case'. Kid takes gun and shoots people in robbery. Life sentences for the parents?
But really rhe idea that minors can own guns through these gift laws is fucking r-worded and it's probably reasonable that red flag laws could be "household" based and not individual based (assuming they pass Constitutional muster... which they won't). So say that instead. Start with small steps because what he is asking for hardens resistance to practical measures that can actually help keep people safe.

I can't say I support a life sentence for parents who enable this sort of thing, but I have no problem with them facing criminal prosecution.
This dad has some fairly big problems though. He apparently beat the kid, and handed him the gun after being warned about the kid's school shooting threats. If that's all true, he needs to go away for a long, long while.

you dont have to explain every nuance when giving out your opinion. if Hogg was responsible for making this a law then lets get into the finer details

Considering that these shootings are ALWAYS done with an AR-15, anyone who is against the reinstatement of the very effective federal Assault Weapons Ban (1994-2004) indirectly supports the mass murder and maiming of America's children.

At first I thought I detected a homophobic oxymoron, but now that I think about it, calling an incel a bundle of wood makes a lot of sense.

I agree that he needs to be charged, but second degree murder is too much, and we as a society really need to catch our breath and think through rationally what can be accomplished to mitigate this risk. Getting rid of the guns is not going to happen. It isn't. So maybe we focus on what is step one instead of trying to solve everything in a single step.

Most guns, sure. Regulate them better. But get rid of the assault weapons. Those don't belong in the hands of idiot parents that will give them to their children.
