It’s been downgraded to Cat 4 currently, predicted to be Cat 3 come landfall. We’ll see.

I read last night that it is a faster-moving storm, so the threat of flooding isn’t as high as Helene.

But then I also read this tweet that includes the sentence “This hurricane is nearing the mathematical limit of what Earth's atmosphere over this ocean water can produce." And I’m like uhhhhh

Katrina went from a 5 to a 3 just before landfall, but the storm surge was still huge. So that's not great.

why anyone that could live elsewhere would choose to live in florida and be stressed and riddled with constant anxiety that every year, during a given two-month period, your home could be destroyed is beyond me.

at some point, every property and casualty insurer is going to hightail it out of there, right?

I felt this way reading about tornado alley as a kid. But this is so much worse. Definitely a head scratcher.

I think insurance companies are already pulling out, refusing coverage, etc.

Not gonna lie, a small part of hanging onto our property in Chicago was the thought of climate refugees paying a premium sooner rather than later.
