It's not worth fighting about but AGAIN those things aren't what determines if something is a port or not.

What determines port or not?

I don't want to fight. I have no dog in this... I'm just trying to learn/understand.

The reason I started this thing was to see you all fight about video games.

A Clarification on Ports/Remasters/Deluxe/Definitive Editions

Turns out video game releases are quite messy. Different systems, different code, timed exclusives, etc. prove to to be a problem. I didn't do a very good job of detailing the rules. Here's an expanded explanation:

The original version of a game can be chosen for the tournament. So can a version released on a different console that has no significant changes in the content/mechanics of the game, graphics, or other core components of the game. For example, the Genesis version of Mortal Kombat II is roughly the same thing as the Arcade version. Different button overlays and slightly different color tones/graphics but no significant changes. Both versions would be acceptable choices. As long as it is a snapshot of the original version of the game. The preference is given to the drafter.

Deluxe Versions/HD Remasters/Definitive Editions/etc. cannot be taken. These versions are released much later and typically include all of the DLC, graphical boosts, tweaked gaemplay, added quests, etc. These typically are a better version of the game in question, but some games have been re-released several times. Just causes confusion.

Porting is about the programming language it was written in and translating it into another platform/language.

You can say it's not the same game because of the changes, but if it was converted from one language into another, it's a port.

Big surprise.

Sim City 2000 - PC, 1993

This is kind of a diversity hire to fill out the 4 platform quota (I’m obviously a heavy Playstation gamer), but this was one of the first video games I ever played. I didn’t really play it well as a kid, but I was weird and liked drawing architectual blueprints and road maps so my mom got me this. I still have a Playstation CD of this too, but I installed it on my laptop 4 years ago and play it every so often when I have nothing better to do.

I’ve never actually played The Sims.

And based on MD’s addendum, I guess I have no choice but to default to the PS2 version of SOTC. But if anyone wants to check that game out, go for the PS4 version.

I'll be voting against CopperTom's and M_D's teams now just because I'm really immature and petty.

For my most nostalgic pick, I choose a game my friends and I used to play together as kids, making up our own rules to a tag game in multiplayer mode, laughing our little asses off, hard. And, as nostalgic as I am for this, I picked it up recently and it still holds up, unlike Tecmo Bowl. There's something about the movements of the characters that was awkward, yet made perfect sense, and you could master it with enough practice, and it was hilarious. We had more fun with this game than we did with Goldeneye 64 and Perfect Dark, which is saying a lot.

I choose:
