The delivery of "distance" (Deestance?) is so odd yet it kinda works. It's weirdness works with the rest of the song.

This idea that in order for a song to be good it has to be designed to be easily replicated on stage and pump the nads of a live audience is so tiresome and so antithetical to the concept of songwriting as a creative endeavor and a genuine expression of emotion, as well as totally divorced to what personally interests me about music. I couldn't care less about PJ live.

Yeah, just listened after not hearing it for a long time... he sounds darn good in Gonna See My Friend. But that track sounds much better, generally.. Sounds like the band is trying. Ed is trying too hard, though. Ugh another grating ear worm.theplatypus wrote:I think there are ways to excel at the 4/4 thing. their album to tour ratio used to be much higher, so maybe they're a "live band" in the sense that they're old and less interested in innovating in the studioDeeDee wrote:They're a live band in the sense that they've put out one (bad) record in the last 10 years but have continued to tour.Ms Harmless wrote:"they're a live band" in the sense that they play instruments and tour, like... a band

This power chord progression is super easy to remember and pull off live. But if Ed was really concerned about performing live, maybe he'd dial down the word vomit a little bit.Ms Harmless wrote:their album to tour ratio used to be much higher, so maybe they're a "live band" in the sense that they're old and less interested in innovating in the studioDeeDee wrote:They're a live band in the sense that they've put out one (bad) record in the last 10 years but have continued to tour.Ms Harmless wrote:"they're a live band" in the sense that they play instruments and tour, like... a band

How many people will keep going to their concerts no matter how good/bad are their new records?
Sadly, they've become irrelevant studio wise.

C) Hibachi Onion Volcano Fireball

I really fear for the song Comes Then Goes which according to Variety is written by Eddie and features "Pete Townshend worthy acoustic aggression!"

I haven't read the last 35 pages - but based on the poll my spidey sense tells me that factions of Gigaton Squad are disappointed.
I just listened for the first time. Initial thoughts are reasonably positive:
- it's not a pure spritzer. it is on the spritz spectrum, but where past spritzers transitioned into pure teenie-bop spritz-punk, this stays closer to the median
- the mix sounds better than past spritz-punkers, which may have been a significant contributor to their obnoxiousness. this doesn't have glam BOB effect, you can hear the bass, and the guitar has a little grit at times
- By the middle, Ed suffers from a bit of the 'too many words' problem, as in past spritzers. but he doesn't rely on his usual bag of vocal tics. no breathiness, no obvious call-and-response structures
- the guitar solo part is solid, not just for the opportunity to hear a solo, but the backing chords are pretty good. there is some edge there. and the transition into the main riff is a good one
overall rating: 6.5/10
when factor-adjusted for new pearl jam crappiness syndrome: 8.5/10

That emotion gets through me every time I hear Footsteps, Hard to imagine, Corduroy, Brain of J, NAIS, Half Full, Come back or Hold on, to name a few.theplatypus wrote:This idea that in order for a song to be good it has to be designed to be easily replicated on stage and pump the nads of a live audience is so tiresome and so antithetical to the concept of songwriting as a creative endeavor and a genuine expression of emotion, as well as totally divorced to what personally interests me about music. And every time I've seen them live the emotions were even higher, so...
That's why PJ are unique.

Re: Superblood Wolfmoon
It just blows my mind how bad the drums are. It seems like that cymbal crash comes in at all the wrong places, even. Which is something an average novice drummer wouldn't do. Maybe Ed drummed on this song.
