The first Plant/Krause album is what I suggest we listen to while making dinner so my wife doesn't make me listen to Phish. The new one (esp the Calexico song) has been a very pleasant surprise.

That's a compromise I'd take eight days a week

Kevin Davis wrote:I'm just listening to the new one in full for the first time, but I've always liked Raising Sand -- I mean, it's tasteful, polite, front porch Americana-type stuff, but their two voices are a somewhat unlikely combination and blend beautifully, and the choice of material is great (they cover Tom Waits's "Trampled Rose" on the first album). Honestly it's not too far off from something like Bill Frisell's Nashville or Good Dog, Happy Man -- it doesn't showcase the same features, obviously, but it leaves a similar impression. Just tasteful, uncomplicated but authentic music made by people who are great at what they do. Marc Ribot is on both albums.
I'm really liking the new one, too -- for someone so well-known for an ear-splitting upper range, I love the way Plant's voice sounds in its lower register (granted he's 73 now, but still). The verses of this (admittedly rather repetitive) song really showcase it nicely:
This album has been one of 2021's pleasant surprises for me

That Jon Batiste record really is great. I didn't know he even released an album this year until the Grammy noms.

It must be region locked. Guess I'll never know what's so fun.

I'm absolutely loving Converge and Chelsea Wolfe's Bloodmoon: 1, so much so that I don't know which song to link to, so here's the whole thing

How could one form a top 2021 when Neil Young is releasing an album in 7 days?
On another note, I have been listening to Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats’ The Future a lot lately.

The prevalence of "year-end lists" that are published in late November/early December really nag at the pedant in me.
