It's so damned bold and uncompromising. At many moments I'm thinking why is this even being filmed right now? And then my brain eventually, uncontrollably at great lengths comes up with theories and revelations and I feel compelled to see it again to work a little more at the puzzle. He's reached a level of story telling that feels directly out of the subconscious mind. I completely understand when people say they don't like his movies. I barely have enough patience for them. But they can be so rewarding.

It's real fuckin original art guys.
It's what makes him so great. His first few movies were very generic, in certain ways, albeit more easily accessible entertainment. But no more.

My wife is convinced that Sean Penn modeled his walk after Tim Robinson. I won’t say it was distracting, but I thought about it every time he was on screen. Then by the end of the movie he was basically:
- Spoiler: show

saw it yesterday. I was hooked. Such a wild ride. Teyana Taylor wow. Sean Penn, give the man the oscar now.
PT's direction is bold and imaginative. Montage was great, soundtrack was great.
yeah i will see it again soon.

I liked it a lot. I don't agree with the masterpiece reviews or those who say it's up there with PTAs best
Sean Penn is so good in this, and his character is so interesting, that everyone else pales in comparison.

Sean Fennessey theorized that Penn based the movements and look of his character on Vince MacMahon and now I can’t unsee it.

I can see that. Especially the ridiculous way he walks.

Okay this sounds pretty great, like Leo’s performance captures us Gen Xers to a degree. Lightly spoilery if you haven’t seen OBAA:

I think this is fair. That said: if I put TWBB at the top of my PTA list, I'd do so because it has "higher highs" than OBAA. That said, I am struggling to find any flaw with OBAA and, paired with how much sheer enjoyment I got out of it, have no problem calling it a masterpiece.

The fact that I have seen only four PTA films is unconscionable and I am going to rectify this transgression over the next thirty days.
