There has been a recent trend with birthday parties that my kids go to where the host parents specifically say not to bring a gift.
I think I like this but I’m not sure?

We've done this. There's always a couple who give one regardless. Kids get too much shit and double ups too.

This is very common with our friend group. I like it a lot.

We have our first classmate bday party this weekend. No gift wasn’t mentioned so we’re bringing one. Is this the right move or is no gift the default now?

if no gift is specified it's kind of up to you. a lot of times parents just want socialization for their kid.

“No gift” or “no gift situation” specified? Goddammit dad!

I don't think they're going to turn you away if you show up with a gift.

just to clarify, most invites aren't going to specify a gift. in the past, i've asked what the kid was into, and the parent would either tell me or tell me to not bring a gift.

Kids get wayy too many toys these days. Just let them play with some dirt and sticks in the back yard.

Yeah was was … yikes, come on, dad!
If you’re not specifically told “no gift” then you bring a gift.
Mrs. Bam still gets a gift every time. I’ll gladly inform her RM wants her to stop doing that.

If we do bring a gift, I will avoid buying something with several pieces/parts.

A kid received four different nerf guns and a toilet paper gun at the last party I attended.

if you really want to piss the parents off, buy something with glitter. a glitter gun is perfect.

No idea, my wife bought it and I was told to leave it in the Amazon packaging so our kid doesn’t get interested in it.
