I agree this is a bizzare choice for a single, stupidmop, within the closed loop of the pearl jam universe, but at least stateside there is a huge market for these kinds of songs. One I don't understand, but it is still there.
And actually, given that this is the case, this may be precisely the right kind of song to release as a single. The most prototypical pearl jam songs don't need to be singles because that audience will hear them. If this causes a wider audience to want to check out the album then it worked. Even if it proves to be a popular song that does not pull people into lightning bolt it still meant that a larger audience got to hear a song that meant something to them

The songs on Ten had / have an outstandingly wide reach outside of the "grunge" fan base. Pretty much everyone likes 'Black.' I'd imagine that if they wanted to achieve that now, a Sirens type song is exactly what would do it, if anything.

Getting back to the song, the more I listen, the more I feel Ed gets his vocal inflections and their timing just right.

Is Jeff playing fretless bass?
This album may well be Ten 2013.

Wow, this song is amazingly confounding. I certainly don't have the nauseating reaction that I had with LB, FD and LTRP. But this song certainly isn't what I expected nor wanted. It's not a bad song but it's got some horrible production decisions (a problem I have with every track so far). The piano after the second lyric is heavy handed, the guitar solo and lead-in really does remind me of November Rain and the guitar tone for the solo is just awful with so much reverb.
BUT Ed shines and there are moments that I truly enjoy. I have only heard it 4-5 times and I do want to hear it some more.
It reminds me of Bon Iver's Beth/Rest. Hopefully I get past the production but I don't feel I will. This song could come in to itself live.
Edit: And in 1992 PJ etc were a breath of fresh air from this type of song. They do it well though.

Finally found somewhere to stream "Ouça “Sirens”, novo single lindão do Pearl Jam"
First impression - I really like the melody, even if it reminds me of Lifehouse.

That's a weird idea.
Pearl jam imitating bands that imitated them
I don't think it's that at all but it's a funny notion

Yeah, it's more like "listen fuckers, THIS is how you do grunge-goes-adult contemporary"

My biggest quarrel with this song is why the band thought it was so unbelievably fantastic? Out of the ones we've heard so far it certainly isn't close to the top. Swallowed Whole would even be a better candidate for next single. I just don't get it

Mike's proud of it because he's the big old cheeseball who wrote it.
Brendan O'Brien thinks it's the best thing the band has ever done because, well.

My guess is because it's so, so, so far removed from their typical comfort zone that it feels special in the catalog.
I like the song. It's not my favorite, but it's playing in my head. Sure it's a little cheesy-- love songs are difficult to write, and I certainly wouldn't call Ed anything close to a master lyricist, which is what you need to get this done properly-- but it's pretty and has its place. And I can respect the bravery of putting something so vulnerable out there.
